After a week of speculations and rumors, Sentinels has officially announced the signing of renowned IGL, Mohamed Amine “johnqt” Ouarid, for the upcoming VCT 2024 season.

The highly regarded North American esports organization, Sentinels, has officially signed Mohamed Amine “johnqt” Ouarid as their in-game leader (IGL) for the upcoming VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) 2024 season. This news comes shortly after Sentinels extended the contract of star player Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, signaling their intent to build a strong lineup.

The VCT 2023 season will be remembered for its astonishing finale, where underdog team Evil Geniuses emerged as the champions, defying expectations. Despite this, several high-profile teams, including Sentinels and 100 Thieves, faced disappointing outcomes, failing to advance far in the major tournaments.

Sentinels, in particular, had a rollercoaster journey throughout the 2023 season. They began the year with high hopes, assembling a formidable roster with stars like TenZ, Zachary “zekken” Patrone, Gustavo “Sacy” Rossi, and Rory “dephh” Jackson. However, they struggled to find their footing, especially as the meta shifted to favor double-controller compositions. This presented a significant challenge for Sentinels, as their original IGL, Dephh, wasn’t well-suited for the evolving strategies.

Despite their talent, Sentinels’ issues became apparent as they dropped in the standings. The organization made several roster moves, releasing Dephh and signing Jimmy “Marved” Nguyen, who was given the IGL role despite his limited experience in the role. While the team showed some improvement towards the end of the season, they were unable to secure a spot in the prestigious Champions 2023 event.

The disappointment in their performance prompted Sentinels to reevaluate their roster and seek a fresh start for the VCT 2024 season. They needed a seasoned IGL who could guide the team strategically and provide the leadership necessary to navigate the ever-evolving meta. This is where johnqt comes into the picture.

Johnqt to take IGL duties of Sentinels

Johnqt, hailing from the Moroccan esports scene, made his mark in the Valorant esports world with successful stints on both Ghost Gaming and M80. One of the significant factors that make johnqt an attractive addition to Sentinels is his flexibility. He has demonstrated the ability to play the sentinel role effectively while excelling as a flex player or initiating roles when needed. His leadership capabilities have been evident in his past performances, particularly during M80’s remarkable 2023 NA Challengers season.

Notably, alongside his appointment as IGL, johnqt reunites with his former head coach, Adam “kaplan” Kaplan. The duo had previously achieved success together on Ghost Gaming, winning multiple Knights and NSG tournaments and displaying resilience against some of North America’s top teams. This reunion adds another layer of synergy and expertise to Sentinels’ lineup.

As Sentinels’ journey into the VCT 2024 season begins, they do so with a roster that combines proven talent with fresh leadership. With TenZ, Zekken, Sacy, Bryan “pANcada” Luna, and johnqt on board, Sentinels aims to make a strong comeback in the highly competitive VALORANT scene. Fans eagerly anticipate how this new-look Sentinels roster will perform in the upcoming VCT 2024 season, with hopes of returning to their former glory atop the region.
