Stewie2k Will Stand In For G2 At IEM Dallas 2024

Earlier, it was revealed that G2’s in-game leader, Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen, would be absent for the upcoming IEM Dallas 2024 tournament. In a surprising announcement, Jacky “Stewie2K” Yip will act as the team’s temporary substitute.

The Major winner has taken a lot of time off from professional Counter-Strike, even making his way to compete in Valorant for some time. He has been grinding a lot of CS2, but we are yet to see how he will fare on the big stage.

Following the announcement, the North American posted a tweet on X, saying he was grateful for the opportunity of playing with Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, the person he robbed a Major title from, and Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, a young star AWPer. Playing in this tournament will also mean that Stewie2k will possibly perform in front of his home crowd.

The 26-year-old last played in a professional Counter-Strike event two years ago, when he attended the PGL Major Antwerp Americas qualifier with the Evil Geniuses squad.

However, we have seen Yip play in several tournaments in Counter-Strike 2, where he joined the Brazilian roster Legacy as a replacement for Marcelo “coldzera” David, who departed from the team not too long ago.

The most interesting part about this short-term iteration of G2 is that HooXi will not be playing with the team. According to rumors, he will miss the event to attend his sister’s wedding, which is completely understandable.

For years, fans have always thought the Danish captain was the team’s weak link, and many wanted him removed from the roster. Despite a possible lack of complete preparation, fans will finally see how the European squad will play without the “worst player” in the team.

IEM Dallas 2024 will take place in Dallas, Texas. The tournament will run from May 27 to June 2 and feature a prize pool of $250,000. Sixteen teams will participate in the tournament, including big names such as FaZe Clan, Team Vitality, MOUZ, Natus Vincere, and Team Spirit.

The G2 Esports lineup is set to play their first match against Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen’s squad, Team Falcons. The MENA-backed roster has been performing poorly, and a lot of eyebrows will be raised should G2 drop the opening series.
