The VCT Pacific League champion Ilya “something” Petrov has obtained a US visa for the forthcoming VCT Champions 20233, boosting Paper Rex’s odds at the season-ending competition.

Paper Rex had encountered visa complications at the most recent international VCT LAN competition, Masters Tokyo. Ilya “something” Petrov of Paper Rex was forced to withdraw from the Masters Tokyo competition because he was unable to get a visa in time. As a result, PRX had to compete with Patiphan “CigaretteS” Posri as a replacement. Fans were disappointed by the lack of something because he was essential to PRX’s victory in the VCT Pacific League.

PRX placed third at Masters Tokyo despite the absence of their Russian star, only falling short of Evil Geniuses and eventual champions Fnatic. Now that, PRX will play with their full strength in the Valorant Champions 2023, their chances of having a strong showing have increased significantly. With his visa secured, VCT Pacific League grand finals MVP Ilya “something” Petrov is all set to make his global Valorant debut at Valorant Champions 2023.

Will PRX bring Asia its first global Valorant title?

Paper Rex established itself as one of the most dominant Valorant squads in the world after taking home both stages of VCT 2022: APAC Challengers and frequently placing in the top four at international competitions. The team’s new campaign got off to a disappointing start when they were eliminated in the first round of the franchise league’s debut event, VCT 2023: LOCK/IN So Paulo, after suffering a heartbreaking 0-2 loss to Cloud9.

The team didn’t let the defeat come in their way and rebounded quickly with a stunning performance in the  VCT Pacific League. After finishing in second place during the regular season, the squad destroyed T1 before exacting revenge on DRX, defeating them twice in the playoffs to win the regional championship.

The squad began the VCT Masters with the same tenacity, crushing their regional rival DRX in the opening round before being routed by Fnatic and relegated to the lower bracket. The team maintained its composure and went on a brilliant run, eliminating EDward Gaming and NRG to book a clash against EG in the lower bracket final. The squad lost to the North American team and came in third, earning $125,000 in cash as a prize.

Despite coming third, their performance in the previous tournament makes it evident that they’ll be in top form when they compete in Valorant’s biggest event. Now that something has confirmed his participation, the team seems to have all the necessary components to become the first Pacific team to triumph in a worldwide VCT competition,
