One of the VCT’s franchise organizations, Paper Rex, has announced the signing of a new player to its expansive VALORANT lineup, Ilya “something” Petrov. With this signing, the team’s lineup now stands at seven players, and they are preparing for their VCT Pacific debut next weekend.

All the organizations are making different moves to complete their lineups to compete best in the VCT regional leagues. With the addition of the promising young Russian, Paper Rex hopes to be one of the best in their region and take home the championship trophy.

Paper Rex announces something as its seventh VALORANT player

In the last few hours, the Asian organization announced the signing of Russian Ilya “something” Petrov to its VALORANT lineup.

According to reports, the promising youngster will join his teammates in South Korea, as the boys are already settled in the Asian country where the VCT Pacific League will be played.

With the arrival of something, Paper Rex’s lineup is as follows:

  • Benedict “Benkai” Tan
  • Patiphan “CigaretteS” Porsi
  • Aaron “mindfreak” Leonhart
  • Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie
  • Jason “f0rsakeN” Susanto
  • Khalish “d4v41” Rusyaidee
  • Ilya “something” Petrov

Recall that Paper Rex played in the first tournament in the VCT franchise era, the LOCK//IN Sao Paulo 2023, and they failed to do well as Cloud9 crushed them in the first match played. As a result, and due to the tournament format, the Paper Rex boys were sent home immediately.

Something can positively influence this lineup

While something has no experience competing at the highest level on the VALORANT scene, Paper Rex likely wanted to get ahead of some negative performance regarding one of their players in the VCT Pacific League.

On the other hand, this young Russian player was by far the best player on his previous team, Sengoku. This team competed in the Japan Challengers League Split 1, which took place in the first quarter of the year. Undoubtedly, this player was a fundamental pillar for Sengoku to finish in fourth place at the table in this tournament, as his statistics were far superior compared to his teammates.

We must also remember that this player set a record concerning the maximum number of kills in a series, with an impressive 136. This record was set last February 20 in the match between Sengoku Gaming and FENNEL. In addition, the player finished this match with an ADR of 199.

As detailed in the VLR.gg portal, something is characterized by using Reyna, Jett, and Raze, which indicates that he could be part of the team of duelists in Paper Rex.

While it is expected that the Russian will be a substitute in the first games of the VCT Pacific League, we cannot rule out that he was used because of his impressive firepower demonstrated in his previous team.
