The fact that you get a lot of kills in a game of any competitive FPS, whether VALORANT, CS:GO, COD, or any other, does not mean that you will always lead your team to victory. Any team game is based on winning the games or maps. Otherwise, having a spectacular individual performance would not be very helpful.

This is the case of Ilya “something” Petrov, a Russian player playing for the Japanese team Sengoku Gaming, who set a new world record for most kills in a professional match. However, his team lost the match.

Something sets an incredible kill’s record

As we mentioned, Russian Ilya “something” Petrov set a new kills record in VALORANT after scoring 136 kills last February 20. The match was played between Sengoku Gaming, something’s team, against FENNEL and, as we mentioned, the best-of-five series was won by FENNEL 3-2.

Despite this exaggeratedly large and, for many, not a very credible number, Sengoku Gaming could not take the victory. Undoubtedly, this defeat can be very frustrating for this player, as he played the game of his life, and still, his team could not take the victory.

It is not the first time that this player has done such a feat

Last Monday, February 20, Sengoku Gaming and FENNEL met in a match corresponding to the Lower Bracket of the Valorant Challengers Japan Split 1. Although we are in an entirely Asian league, the protagonist of the match was a Russian because Russians are now dominating esports. There were 136 “something” kills in this match; there is no doubt that this is an exaggeratedly high amount.

On the other hand, this is not the first time the player has implanted this kind of number. In Sengoku Gaming’s last victory over IGZIST, the Russian player totaled 120 kills, which was also, at the time, a record number.

New record of 136 kills

By no means can we take credit away from the player for achieving this feat, no more, no less, but it is worth noting that he did it in a BO5. The first map, Ascent, was a defeat for his team, and the player still finished with 33 kills and a 1.51 rating. Nobody thought the player would maintain this level of play during the whole series.

The second map, Haven, was a victory for Sengoku Gaming, where “something” scored 26 kills. But it didn’t stop there because in Lotus, the third map, the Russian put his team ahead on the scoreboard after adding 31 kills again.

FENNEL tied the series in the fourth map with a “discreet” Ilya “something” Petrov, as he got 22 kills, a figure that, without a doubt, is still very high for many players. Finally, FENNEL won Pearl, and the Russian player got 24 kills to finish the series with 136 and 74 kills.

After the defeat, the player only posted on his Twitter account a message that made clear the very high level of disappointment he felt at the time, as the player said, “GG.”

There is no doubt that, with these performances, this player will be watched by big esports organizations, as we could be in front of a new star in VALORANT. The Russian player is only 21 years old, and there is no doubt that he is incredibly talented.
