Paper Rex advance to VCT Champions 2023 Grand Final

The VALORANT Champions 2023 emotions are back, and after an intense match in the semifinals, we have that Paper Rex got an excellent victory over Evil Geniuses to qualify for the tournament’s Grand Final.

There is no doubt that Paper Rex continues to prove that their level of play is high at this point of the season. However, now they will have an additional motivation since Fnatic, the team that arrived as the clear favorite to win the champions trophy, was eliminated by LOUD in the Lower Bracket. As a result, the team knows they have the possibility of being the world champions in their hands.

This is just another demonstration that the VALORANT competitive scene is more exciting than ever, as any team can be at the top. In addition, Paper Rex also proves that their excellent season is no coincidence and that they will leave it all in the tournament’s last match.

Paper Rex apply a reverse sweep to qualify for the VCT Champions 2023 Grand Final

In a really exciting Upper Bracket final, Paper Rex had to pull out all the stops after losing the first map to apply a reverse sweep and take the victory to qualify for the tournament’s Grand Final. Evil Geniuses had a great start, but they could not face the great power of Paper Rex.

The series was played in Ascent, Bind, and Pearl.

Ascent

The first map of the Upper Bracket final was Ascent, the map pick of Evil Geniuses, where the North American squad showed why this was their first map selection. However, things started very well for Paper Rex in the first half, as they managed to take a 7-5 victory on their attacking side. Then, at the change of sides, Evil Geniuses woke up to hit back immediately, and, with an 8-3 score, they managed to take the victory by 13-10.

Bind

The teams then moved to Bind, Paper Rex’s map pick, where we enjoyed a spectacular match with both teams playing at their best possible level. In the first half, EG used the confidence and momentum from their first map win to take a 7-5 partial victory. However, this only made Paper Rex wake up, as the Pacific squad managed to win 8 rounds in a row to take the 13-9 victory and even the series 1-1.

Pearl

Finally, we moved to Pearl, the decider map, where we witnessed another exciting match that had to be defined after several rounds in Overtime. In the first half, everything was even at 6-6, with both teams showing the best of their side. Then, EG started extremely well at the change of sides, winning the first five rounds, but this stayed there as Paper Rex woke up and could even map 12-12.

Finally, after four rounds in Overtime, Paper Rex won 15-13 and thus sealed their ticket to the VALORANT Champions 2023 Grand Final.
