NEO is already with FaZe Clan to act as interim Head Coach at IEM Cologne 2023

As anticipated a few days ago, Counter-Strike legend Filip “NEO” Kubski is announced as interim Head Coach of FaZe Clan for IEM Cologne 2023. There is no doubt that NEO’s experience in the scene is fundamental for this team that is used to playing with a coach like Robert “RobbaN” Dahlström.

However, the unexpected news that RobbaN was stepping down as FaZe’s Head Coach put the organization on the search for a coach that would have the same impact on this lineup.

While it is true that different web portals had announced this signing for several weeks, FaZe Clan made it official a few hours ago, that is, two days before starting their participation in the Group Stage of the IEM Cologne 2023.

Through a post on its Twitter account, FaZe Clan announced the signing of Polish legend NEO as interim Head Coach of its CS:GO team for IEM Cologne 2023.

This news confirms all the reports from several weeks ago stating that NEO would take over FaZe Clan as of IEM Cologne 2023. However, although the organization announces NEO as interim Head Coach, he may stay indefinitely in this position. However, everything will depend on the team’s performance under his leadership in such an important tournament as the IEM Cologne 2023.

On the other hand, it is also worth mentioning that this will not be the first time we see NEO wearing the FaZe Clan jersey. Recall that the Polish legend and the former EMS One Katowice Major 2014 champion (with Virtus.pro) played for FaZe briefly in 2019 as IGL.

However, this will be the first time we will see NEO in his coaching role at Counter-Strike’s top competitive level, as, let’s remember, he was an active player from 2000 (CS 1.6) until 2022.

While it is true that he was one of the most emblematic players in the game’s history, his competitive stage was declining over the years, and since 2019, he is not part of a top-level organization.

Replacing Robban is quite a challenge

There is no doubt that the main challenge NEO has as FaZe’s Head Coach is to fill the shoes of RobbaN, an extremely experienced and successful Head Coach. RobbaN led FaZe to win many titles since joining the team in 2017, including IEM Cologne 2022, ESL Pro League S17, and, most importantly, Intel Grand Slam S4.

On the other hand, NEO also has to deal with the fact that FaZe Clan’s IGL is Finn “karrigan” Andersen, another experienced player with incredible synergy with RobbaN. Besides, karrigan gave an interview a few days ago where he pointed out that replacing the Swedish coach was impossible since, for the team, RobbaN is “unique.”. However, everything will depend on the team’s results under NEO’s technical direction.
