MPL Indonesia S13 most-watched esports event of 2024 so far: Esports Charts

One of the most popular regions in the world for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang esports is showing up in force for 2024’s 1st split of worldwide MLBB pro play.

MPL Indonesia’s return this Season 13 delivered an astounding 9.75 million hours watched – the most-watched esports event for 2024 so far, according to data from esports statistics provider Esports Charts.

March 10’s 2-1 thriller between AURA Fire and RRQ Hoshi garnered a whopping 1.49 million peak viewers. RRQ Hoshi was able to take the series, 2-1.

Esports Charts noted that the viewership of the match was primarily because of RRQ Hoshi’s immense popularity among Indonesian MLBB fans.

“Although Aura Fire’s match against RRQ was one of the most popular matches of the first week, their other match against Dewa United Esports received far less viewership, hinting at the fact that the high viewership for their other game was thanks to RRQ Hoshi’s popularity rather than their own,” Esports Charts noted.

Meanwhile, two of Alter Ego’s matches have also secured top-notch viewer counts.

Their March 9 match against Rebellion Esports peaked at 935,774 viewers, while their March 8 match against the now-rebranded EVOS Glory had over 901,000 peak views.

“Alter Ego are an established esports brand in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and their 6 years of history in the Indonesian scene of the esports discipline has bought them a sizable following and audience. Although their results have been up and down lately, fans are still passionate and supportive, tuning into their first couple of games for Season 13 of the professional league,” Esports Charts noted.

The league also noted that Season 13’s opening week is a bit down from Season 12’s opening week, but also noted that these are just preliminary results.

“Viewership is slightly down compared to the MPL Season 12’s opening week, but the previous Season 12 became the most-watched esports league of all time. There is still plenty of room for the MPL Season 13 to grow and garner millions more hours of watch time,” Esports Charts said.

Indonesia is one of two regions which will have two berths for the biggest MLBB esports event at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The winner and runner-up of MPL Indonesia Season 13 will automatically have a chance at winning the lion’s share of the US$3 million prize pool at the 2024 Mid-Season Cup.
