There is no doubt that Call of Duty fans will never forget the CDL Major II that took place in Boston last weekend. All the emotions experienced, extremely surprising results, some players standing out more than others, and the retirement of a legend in the middle of the tournament.

However, we must also remember the ordeal many teams had to go through to get to Boston for this CDL Major II. The weather conditions in the United States did not allow many teams to arrive on time, with their suitcases and many other things.

But that did not make the tournament any less exciting or eye-catching, as the CDL Major II reached incredible heights in viewership on the official broadcasts.

Atlanta FaZe crowned champion

In a spectacular Grand Final, Atlanta FaZe was crowned champion of the CDL Major II 2023, defeating Los Angeles Thieves with a great score of 4-2. This grand final between FaZe and LA Thieves came just hours after legendary CoD player, Anthony “Methodz” Zinni, announced his retirement in front of the home crowd and his family.

More than 300,000 viewers at the broadcasts

On the other hand, the tournament reaped spectacular success in terms of popularity on Twitch broadcasts. We can even say that it resembles or surpasses any other major esports event of another video game. The maximum peak of viewers reached the CDL Major II was 300,000. This joined the fans who followed the broadcast on the official CDL channels and the watch parties of Scump and ZooMaa.

On the other hand, according to the statistical web portal Esports Charts, the match between LA Thieves and OpTic Texas, which corresponded to the loser’s semi-final, reached almost 302,000 viewers, being the third highest audience peak in the history of the CDL.

In terms of top-tier competition, the Major II peak trailed only the 2018 CWL Championship, which peaked at 324,086, and the 2020 CDL Finals, which peaked at 331,558.

The audience has increased on Twitch

There is no doubt that the audience was much higher with the DLC Major II’s exclusivity on Twitch. If we only consider the watch parties of Scump and ZooMaa, we can see that they exceeded 100,000 viewers per transmission.

Now we can only wait to see what will happen with respect to Major III, which will be played in the next few weeks. If the CDL decides that it will continue to have exclusivity with Twitch, or if the rumors that the transmissions would move to YouTube come true. Comparing the audience with these two incredible platforms would be very interesting and exciting.
