Different scandals continue to appear in the Dota 2 competitive scene. Unfortunately, we have another possible match-fixing case in the official professional competition this time.

While many fans thought that what happened in the DPC WEU 2023 Tour One: Division One was something impressive, they were not beyond being wrong. Something many strangers happened in the DPC CN Tour One: Division Two.

Three-team tie ends in completely strange situation

At the DPC WEU 2023 Tour One: Division One, fans were treated to an almost impossible three-way tie between OG, Entity, and Tundra Esports. The same thing also happened in the DPC CN Tour One, as it was a three-team tie-breaker.

However, this time a three-way tie-breaker was necessary to define the fifth, sixth, and seventh place in the table. This was because the team that finished in seventh place would drop out of the division, indicating that the teams were playing for their lives in this tie-breaker. The strange situation was not the three-way tie or the time it took. Let’s look at what happened.

First of all, we should mention the names of the three teams involved:

  • Poke Gaming
  • Meteor Gaming
  • Team Cloud

Poke Gaming had started with a big win against Team Cloud in the first match of the playoff. However, they were down on the scoreboard against Meteor Gaming on the second map. Four of Meteor’s players went offline without explanation for an extended time at a certain point in the game.

After a while, two of the players returned to the game. Still, despite having a considerable advantage in the match, they could not overcome their opponents, as the numerical disadvantage took its toll.

This meant Poke’s second victory, automatically giving him the fifth position in the table. Now, everything would be defined in the match between Team Cloud and Meteor Gaming to define the sixth and seventh place.

Another strange event

At the moment Poke took the fifth place, Team Cloud decided to leave the competition, which gave the sixth place to Meteor and kept its place in the division due to the win by forfeit.

Many community members do not believe this happened by chance or anything like that. Remember that recently there have been different allegations regarding Chinese teams being involved in match-fixing cases.

Everything remained as it was without any other explanation from the organizers or the teams. Poke and Meteor Gaming remain in Division II, while Team Cloud and Team Mystique leave the competition after finishing in seventh and eighth place, respectively.

Many strange movements have been witnessed in recent weeks in the competitive scene of Dota 2. Valve and the organizers of the different Tours have to take action. There must be exemplary punishments for players and organizations that serve as an example and help to prevent this from happening again.
