The emotions of the ESL Pro League S18 continue, and last September 29th, we enjoyed two intense and exciting matches in the Quarterfinals of the playoffs. However, we also had a pleasant surprise: the Ukrainian squad, Monte, got a solid 2-0 victory over Team Vitality to qualify for the tournament’s semifinals.

On the other hand, this is a farewell for Team Vitality, who, for sure, consider this result disappointing, considering that they were one of the favorites to win the tournament. Likewise, it is fair to mention that Monte deserves what they are experiencing, as this team has been playing at the best possible level throughout 2023.

While it is not yet the end of CS:GO esports, the fact that other teams are fighting at the top of every tournament only makes us think that, at the beginning of the CS2 era in esports, we will have much more balanced competitions.

Let’s see what happened in the Monte and Team Vitality match in the ESL Pro League S18 Quarterfinals.

Monte annihilate Team Vitality 2-0

As we mentioned, Team Vitality was the clear favorite to take the victory in this series, as the team was coming from winning their group and, besides, we all know the potential of this squad. However, the Ukrainian squad proved once again that their level of play is at the highest possible level, and, with excellent teamwork, they achieved a solid 2-0 victory.

The series between Monte and Team Vitality took place at Anubis and Nuke.

Anubis

It all started on Anubis, Monte Esports’ map pick, where the Ukrainian squad started to more than prove why they had selected this map.

In the first half, Team Vitality could not deploy an effective defense to stop the attacks of the Ukrainian squad and ended up losing with a partial score of 4-11. However, at the change of sides, Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut woke up and put his team on his back to try to come back, and they were close to succeeding (11-14). Ultimately, Monte won the last two rounds to take the win 16-11 on this first map.

Nuke

Then, the teams moved to Nuke, Team Vitality’s map pick, where we also watched the best of each side and were treated to a truly great game.

In the first half, Monte, for the second map in a row, took an excellent 9-6 victory that once again demonstrated their high level of play. However, this time, Team Vitality woke up completely to the change of sides, and after winning 7 consecutive rounds in their CT Side, they managed to get ahead on the scoreboard 14-13.

Finally, Monte was able to react at the end of the map to win the last two rounds to seal their victory in the match by 16-14 and in the series by 2-0.
