Hussar Cup 2023: First CS2 tournament of 2023

While it is true that the exact day of the worldwide release of Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) has not yet been officially announced, a few hours ago it was announced the Hussar Cup 2023, the first CS2 tournament to be played in Poland and will have a prize pool of $1,000,000.

This news is really exciting for the whole game community. Not only for the fact that we will have the first CS2 tournament in a short time, but we might be very close to the worldwide release of the game. Moreover, this news comes hours before Valve released some of the game’s new features after several months of silence.

Are we close to the launch of CS2? We don’t know! However, let’s see all the details about Hussar Cup 2023, the first official CS2 tournament.

Hussar Cup 2023 – Details

The Hussar Cup is a 100% LAN Counter-Strike 2 tournament that will be played at the Śląski Stadium located in Chorzów, Poland, from August 30 to September 3, 2023.

As mentioned, the Hussar Cup will have a prize pool of $1,000,000, where the first place will take home $350,000 and the champions trophy of the first CS2 tournament in history.

On the other hand, it was announced that the tournament will have the participation of eight teams from all over the world, and, in addition to the tournament, different events will also be organized. There was talk of a technology and gaming fair, different conferences, a parade through the city center, and round tables.

Format of the Hussar Cup 2023

As mentioned, the Hussar Cup will have eight teams from all over the world. Four of these teams will arrive thanks to a direct invitation, while the other four will have to qualify through qualifiers.

These eight teams will then be divided into two groups of four each and played in GSL format with all matches best-of-three (BO3). Finally, the first-place team from each group advances directly to the tournament’s semifinals, while the second and third-place teams will play for life in the quarterfinals. Like the tournament’s first phase, the playoff matches are best-of-three (BO3).

How to qualify for the Hussar Cup 2023?

All teams wishing to qualify for the Hussar Cup must pass two qualifiers, the first of which will be open and played from July 20 to August 4, 2023. In the same way, the eight best teams of this tournament will play the closed qualifiers from August 6 to 9. In addition, local qualifiers will be played on August 5, i.e., in Poland, from which two of the eight participating teams will emerge.

Finally, the teams that qualify during these preliminary tournaments will join the four teams directly invited to the main tournament.

Note: The Hussar Cup 2023 announcement highlights that if, by the tournament date (August 30), CS2 has not yet been released globally, the event will be played on CS:GO.
