OpTic Gaming’s star player Jimmy ‘Marved’ Nguyen is taking a break from the professional scene for now.

Marved, the Canadian Valorant player, addressed the rumors swirling around his future in Valorant during a recent stream. Marved said he wants to stay at home for the time being and has no immediate plans to relocate to Los Angeles for the VCT Americas League. Before moving out and carrying on with his professional career, the player still has a few matters to attend to.

“But I wanted to stay home. I don’t want to move to Los Angeles yet. I’ve got stuff to do and take care of at home. I have obligations.”- Jimmy ‘Marved’ Nguyen

During the stream, Marved revealed that other partnered Valorant teams have been making offers to him. The hardest aspect for Marved right now, according to his words, will be moving out to Los Angeles as a result of the franchising.  Additionally, he disclosed that his choice to take a break was mostly driven by feelings of being burnt out and his present life circumstances including family, friends, and loved ones. Marved reassured supporters that he isn’t done playing Valorant professionally and would soon return without a doubt in response to their worries regarding his unexpected break. Marved wants to attend to a few matters before returning to competitive play, thus he won’t be joining a VCT partner team just yet.

What’s going on with OpTic’s roster lately?

The future of the team’s players has recently become a hot topic of discussion after OpTic was rejected for VALORANT partnerships next year. The team’s consistent performance made every OpTic player an attractive and powerful pick for teams looking to upgrade their rosters before the VCT 2023. Earlier this week, Cloud9 announced the addition of Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker to its lineup for VCT 2023. Austin “crashies” Roberts, Pujan “FNS” Mehta, Victor “Victor” Wong, and coach Chet Singh are also apparently close to signing with NRG, leaving Marved as the lone player who hasn’t found a new home.

Marved was a key part of OpTic’s impressive VCT 2022 season, which saw the team dominate all three international LAN tournaments. The team finished second in VCT Champions, delivering one of the best finals of the season against LOUD, won VCT Masters Reykjavik in April, and earned two second-place finishes in NA’s Challengers.OpTic’s Grand Final MVP, Marved, was the player soaking in the praise as he put in a record-breaking performance in the world championship.
