Esports fans familiar with Riyadh events will recognize the Gamers8 name. In 2022, at Gamers8, 24 Rocket League teams fought hard for a prize pool of $2 million. FURIA Esports, who won the tournament, received $500.000.

Now, Gamers8 and the Saudi Esports Federation, in association with The International Esports Federation or IESF, announced a great esports event created for Asian gamers. This tournament will feature a preliminary round between May 1-16, which will take place online.

After this first round, a LAN will take place in Riyadh between July 10-17. This LAN will be part of Gamers8, a broader esports event that will feature competitions for multiple games.

The declarations of IESF and the Saudi Esports Federation

This is what the Secretary General of IESF said in relation to the announcement:

“Thank you to the city of Riyadh for welcoming us and hosting the Gamers8 IESF Asian Championship. We are confident that the World Esports Family will have an unforgettable experience in one of the world’s top esports destinations. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Gamers8 and the Saudi Esports Federation and are looking forward to seeing the region’s best gamers go head-to-head in Riyadh.”

The Deputy CEO of the Saudi Esports Federation, Ahmed Albishri, also expressed his excitement in regard to the opportunity that will be created for gamers from Asia:

“The first Gamers8 IESF Asian Championship is a great reward for all Asian players. We are excited to host this tournament for the first time during the summer of 2023 at Gamers8 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to show off the best skills and provide an unforgettable esports experience.”

First impressions

The announcement made by Gamers8 will certainly be welcomed by CS:GO players and fans. After all, a $1 million tournament that features 12 great teams is something that we all enjoy.

The only criticism that can be made at this point is that Gamers8 seems a bit too eager to outshine other organizers and neglects the fact that CS:GO is primarily a European and American esport. On top of that, the history of Counter-Strike spans more than two decades and was full of epic tournaments.

To say that “Gamers8 is taking CS:GO to the next level” is a bit of an overstatement at this point. But, no doubt, it could happen in the coming years if the organization is serious about its commitment to the game and its professional scene.
