Unfortunately, the EVO Japan finals are plagued by serious setup problems. The biggest fighting game series, EVO, has held a big event. With this event, it was expected that EVO would triumphantly return to Japan; however, not everything went as planned.

During last weekend’s event, serious setup issues could be seen, which undoubtedly affected the EVO.

Perhaps for many people, the criticism regarding fighting games is nothing new. Still, the problems that occurred during EVO Japan seem to be significant enough to hurt the competition.

EVO Japan tormented by severe setup issues

At the start of EVO, Japan went off without a hitch, and the first rounds went off without a hitch. However, not everything was rosy, and after the first eight games, things started to go wrong and out of control.

The match between Momochi and Punk from Street Fighter is best illustrated when things start to go wrong. First, Punk’s monitor wasn’t working properly, so the fight was postponed while he got a monitor to replace the failing one. Subsequently, however, the player continued complaining, but it was about the line setup this time.

When the competition is affected by hardware, it’s especially annoying, especially if you’ve been considering betting on Street Fight.

After the event’s setup problems were reported in Japan, many people thought it was simply baseless complaints from gamers. However, all the problems at the event were real, and all could be verified.

Seeking to calm gamers and fighting game fans, the organizers of EVO Japan made a post on their Twitter account to apologize.

Many setup problems during the event

The setup problems at the event could have been avoided. According to information revealed by EVO Japan volunteer worker KDE BViz, some of the staff in charge of the event did not have the experience to organize fighting game events.

KDE BViz revealed that paper stands were used for the Tekken 7 competition, which resulted in a very large margin for human error. It also adds that there were problems managing the betting pools during the event.

On the other hand, the problems related to the lag experienced by the players and the failures in the monitors are commented. It is important to mention that all the monitors were part of the sponsorship. However, the problems do not end here; some PS4 consoles presented problems.

Unfortunately, the event did not go as planned, but the organization is committed to the entire community of fighting game fans to improve all the failures experienced this year.
