The first round of the playoffs of ESL Pro League S19 ended with some very interesting results. G2 Esports and FaZe Clan won their respective matches, as was expected. But in the other two matches, FlyQuest and Virtus.pro surprised us with their performance.

Both GamerLegion and BetBoom Team seemed to be the favorites, but they were narrowly defeated.

BIG vs. G2 Esports: 0 – 2

BIG had a good chance of winning this match. Their group stage performance was excellent, so the odds were close to 50/50. The fate of the match was decided on the first map, Inferno.

BIG had a substantial advantage after the first half: 8 – 4. In the second half, G2 equalized and forced overtime. Finally, after two overtime series, G2 won 16 – 19. The morale of BIG dropped completely, even though this wasn’t their map pick. On the second map, the score was 4 – 13.

On the first map, the entire G2 roster played well and made a big contribution. The difference in kills between HooXi and huNter- was only 5.

GamerLegion vs. Virtus.pro: 0 – 2

GL defeated ENCE twice during the group stage, so they were viewed as a very strong team. VP struggled in group A, finishing 4th after losing against Fnatic and FaZe Clan.

As soon as the match started, we knew that this would be an exciting battle to watch. On Anubis, GL won the first half 8 – 4. Everything they did was well executed. But in the second half, VP were very dominant. This situation would repeat on Mirage as well. The final scores were 11 – 13, 11 – 13.

The best player on VP was electroNic. Despite being signed only recently, his vast experience proved sufficient to carry his team to a great success.

BetBoom Team vs. FlyQuest: 1 – 2

BetBoom won the first map 13 – 11 despite losing the first half of it 4 – 8. But on the next two maps, FlyQuest proved to be just a bit stronger. The scores were 9 – 13, 9 – 13. On both teams, everyone played well and made a substantial contribution. The difference was created by small details and key round victories.

FaZe Clan vs. Monte: 2 – 1

FaZe Clan were expected to win this match 2 – 0, preferably without losing more than 10 rounds on each map. However, Monte came prepared. The scores were 13 – 7 on Vertigo, 14 – 16 on Nuke, and 13 – 10 on Mirage. The only reason why FaZe won in the end was broky’s amazing performance. His score was 74 – 44.
