We have lived three intense days in the first week of the CDL 2023 Stage 4 Major Qualifiers. We have LA Guerrillas, Toronto Ultra, Florida Mutineers, and London Royal Ravens as the only teams that do not know victory.

There is no doubt that the most surprising team so far are the Ultra, as they have just lifted the champions trophy in the CDL Major III and come as favorites for this new tournament. As for Guerrillas, Mutineers, and Royal Ravens, there is a lot of work to do if they want to score important points that will allow them to climb positions in the CDL general table.

LA Thieves and Minnesota RØKKR kick off the qualifiers relentlessly

After two games played, both LA Thieves and RØKKKR showed great play to take their first two victories of the qualifiers and finish on top of the table after the first day.

The performances of the Thieves players in this first week were extremely good, but we can’t overlook the great game that Dylan “Envoy” Hannon had against Seattle Surge. The 23-year-old finished the series with a K/D of +1.46 and had an impressive total damage stat of 12,093.

The RØKKKR, meanwhile, snapped a streak of eight consecutive series losses, and what a way to do it. Saturday’s match against the Mutineers saw them show exceptional play to beat them 3-0. Then in Sunday’s match against Guerrillas, the RØKKR applied a reverse sweep to win 3-1.

While none of the players had to carry their team, they took both victories as they should have, playing as a team.

OpTic Texas, Las Vegas Legion, and New York Subliners win their first matches

OpTic, who debuted in these Major IV qualifiers last Sunday, crushed the London Royal Ravens 3-0 to claim their first win and give the British team their second.

Las Vegas Legion, meanwhile, scored an extraordinary victory in the opening match of the qualifiers against a strong Boston Breach team. In the end, with an excellent performance by Eli “Standy” Bentz, they took the victory 3-1.

Finally, the Subliners had a pitched battle against Atlanta FaZe but ended up winning 3-2 to start the qualifiers on the right foot.

Atlanta, Boston, and Seattle split honors in Week 1

As mentioned, Atlanta FaZe lost 2-3 to the Subliners in the first game of these Major IV qualifiers. However, they managed to bounce back last Sunday with a 3-2 win over Florida Mutineers. It should be noted that Atlanta and Toronto are the only teams to have played all ten games in this tournament’s first week.

After losing unexpectedly to Las Vegas Legion in their debut, Boston Breach won very close over the reigning champions, Toronto Ultra, with a score of 3-2. Finally, Seattle recovered from their first loss to the Thieves by defeating the Major III champions.

Reigning Champions start with their morale on the floor

Toronto Ultra arrived with the air that they could achieve what none of the teams have achieved this season, winning two consecutive Majors. However, the start of the tournament has not been in their favor.

After two series played and ten games, Toronto Ultra has not managed to get a win in this first week of the qualifiers. They were very close to coming back from 0-2 against Boston Breach but ended up losing in Search&Destroy (Embassy) with a score of 4-6.

Then, against Seattle, it was the same story, as they started losing the series 0-2, managed to recover, and ran out of gas in Al Bagra Fortress (Search&Destroy).

CDL 2023 Stage 4 Major Qualifiers action continues next weekend with the next matches on April 7:

  • Boston Breach vs. London Royal Ravens
  • Florida Mutineers vs. Seattle Surge
  • New York Subliners vs. Minnesota RØKKR
