The new meta that was created by Dota 2 patch 7.34 includes a lot of mid heroes that used to be considered completely useless.

Invoker, for instance, had not been picked in professional tournaments for a long time. But as soon as the new patch was introduced, everyone started playing him so much that he had to be nerfed in the 7.34b update.

Even after the nerfs, Invoker is still a powerful mid. But he is not the only mid hero that’s spammed these days.

Invoker

Invoker’s laning phase is quite weak. The hero suffers from many deficiencies and can be pressured into making mistakes by a good player. Heroes like Templar Assassin, Puck, Queen of Pain, Broodmother, and Void Spirit tend to give him a hard time.

But after the laning phase is over and Invoker reaches level 12, his mid game is very strong. He can make use of Ghost Walk and other spells to destroy the enemy team’s farmers and completely disrupt their map movements. That’s why nobody likes to play against an Invoker. He’s like Clinkz, but worse.

Slardar

Slardar is now a veritable mid hero, and Dota 2 patch 7.34b only slightly nerfed the huge buffs offered to him by patch 7.34. This monster excels in every category: damage, disables, movement speed, sustainability, team fighting, farming etc.

You simply cannot go wrong with Slardar, and his item builds give you the opportunity to play him in a wide variety of ways. Some of the most aggressive builds include a Medallion and an Orb of Corrosion.

By the time you’re level 6, you could decrease a target’s armor by 15-20, essentially reducing its effective HP by 50% against your physical damage.

Outworld Devourer

Outworld Devourer is another hero that hadn’t been seen mid for a long time. But Dota 2 patch 7.34 gave him some powerful buffs to his Astral Imprisonment, Essence Flux, and Sanity’s Eclipse. Powerful spellcasters hate this hero more than they hate Silencer.

His ultimate causes them to have to stop casting spells for 7s because they take massive damage (1 per 1 mana point) for every spell they cast. At the same time, they heal OD for 150% of the mana they consume to cast that spell. And by the way, this debuff is added on top of the damage dealt by the ult, which is enormous.
