The League of Legends TV show, which follows the adventures of two sisters from the League of Legends universe, Jinx and Vi, has stunned Hollywood and dominated the Annie Awards. Streaming Giant Netflix ruled the night with the Most awarded TV show and Most Awarded Movie of the event.

League of Legends ‘Arcane’ is an animated television series based on the Runeterra universe from League of Legends. The story follows Jinx (Powder) and Vi as they grow up, as well as the politics between Piltover and Zaun. Piltover is a paradise with advances in science and technology and Zaun is an underground city where slum people strive to make ends meet.

Both imaginary cities have a dramatic contrast between them, and as the story builds up, madness for power and revenge for betrayal causes total chaos in the city of Piltover and Zaun.

For several weeks after its three-act release, Arcane was the most popular show on Netflix, ruling global charts to a degree that had never been seen previously for video game adaptations. On Rotten Tomatoes, it also scored 100.

Riot Games’ first foray into mainstream entertainment was entitled “Best TV series’

Arcane was nominated for 9 categories and the LOL blockbuster won every one of them.

Arcane won awards for Best Directing (TV), Storyboarding (TV), General TV Production, Character Animation (TV), Character Design (TV), Production Design (TV), Writing (TV), Voice Acting (TV), and the biggest of them was the  “Best TV Show” award.

Arcane joins an illustrious list of TV shows that have won multiple Annie Awards with its nine victories. Arcane is tied with Futurama for the most awards at the animation ceremony, with The Simpsons (30) and Mickey Mouse (21).

The whole series was a blockbuster but some episodes attracted more attention than the others and won multiple awards. During last night’s show, episode six “When These Walls Come Tumbling Down” and episode nine “The Monster You Created,” each received three awards.

“When These Walls Come Tumbling Down” won awards for TV/Media – General Audience, Best Storyboarding, Best Voice Acting, and “The Monster You Created” was awarded for Best Writing, Best Direction, and Best Character Animation.

Netflix ruled the 49th Annie Awards

Plenty of different studios, networks, and streaming services were featured but Netflix owned the Annie Awards on Saturday, picking up 20 of the 31 competitive trophies and the streaming giant had the most-awarded film and most-awarded TV show of the entire night. The streamer’s ‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines’ was named best-animated feature, topping the film categories with eight wins while ‘Arcane’ ruled the TV side with 9.

Arcane Season 2 is “In Production”

Season 1 of Arcane finished with a dramatic shot of an emotionally distraught Jinx firing a rocket towards Piltover’s council room. We can only presume, given how brutal the first season was, that there will be some deaths in this season, but we’ll have to wait and see how the story turns out.

Arcane announced from their official Twitter account that Season 2 has only been “in production” since November 2021. But It isn’t coming anytime soon because the first season took 6 years to make.

With merely a quick teaser trailer, it has also been announced that the show will not be released in 2022. At best, we can expect a release in 2023. Don’t get too down though because Arcane isn’t the only story that Riot plans on pursuing with Studio Fortiche.
