Dignitas has announced that it is leaving Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and will no longer compete in the title for the foreseeable future. This marks the second time that the organization won’t field a CS:GO team for an extended period of time. It is yet unclear what’s next for players.

The news comes just over a month after the organization released its entire line-up, stating at the time that it was looking to build a “compelling team that will fight for titles.” The announcement from May also read: “Over the coming weeks we will be evaluating our future in CS:GO in hopes of putting together a compelling lineup.”

However, the desired successes did not materialize and Dignitas has now come to a resolution and decided to retire from CS:GO completely. The official announcement stated:

“We’ll be cheering on our former players and the continued success of CS:GO from the sideline for now and continue to be fans of one of the greatest esports.”

Line-up released after disappointing results

The last event Dignitas attended was the European RMR for PGL Major Antwerp 2022, where the team was eliminated in the group stage. During their time together, Dignitas’ CS:GO roster hovered just outside the top 20 in the world’s rankings. While consistently competing in tournaments, they’ve failed to win any titles other than the BLAST Nordic Masters tournament back in March 2021, which secured them a spot at the following BLAST Premier Spring Showdown.

The disbandment of the team also marks the first time that popular pro player Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg has been without a team in his career. How things will continue for him and the rest of the team is not yet clear.

Here’s the former Dignitas CS:GO line-up:

  • Ludvig “HEAP” Alonso
  • Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg
  • Jonas “Lekr0” Olofsson
  • Håkon “hallzerk” Fjærli
  • Adam “friberg” Friberg
  • Faruk “Pita” Pita (Coach)

Coach pita released along with the team

Shortly before the org’s withdrawal from CS:GO was officially announced, Dignitas CS:GO coach Faruk “pita” Pita posted on Twitter that the club would no longer remain in CS:GO. Pita revealed that Dignitas informed him about the withdrawal and that he was released from his contract. The organization later confirmed that all of its players and the coach have been released and can now start looking for other opportunities and teams.

Dignitas’ journey in CS:GO

Dignitas has been in esports since 2004, exiting CS:GO once in 2018 before returning again in 2020. During that time, the team’s best results included the 3rd-4th place at ESL One Cologne and ESL Major Series One Katowice, both in 2014. It is, therefore, possible that one day, Dignitas will return to CS:GO again.

The organization also announced on May 12 that its women’s CS:GO team Dignitas Female, will be primarily competing in VALORANT rather than Counter-Strike going forward.
