After much criticism in the weeks leading up to the start of the VCT Americas League, Cloud9 continue to surprise everyone by demonstrating a spectacular level of play and, most importantly, crushing their opponents.
Cloud9 were one of the teams that had more problems in the first months of the year, especially after the disappointing participation in the VCT LOCK//IN Sao Paulo 2023. In addition, the departure of Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker, considered one of the best in the world, further aggravated the situation.
On the other hand, the team decided to sign two players with little experience on the scene, Dylan “runi” Cade and Jake “jakee” Anderson. As a result, this generated a lot of criticism about the team’s performance in VALORANT’s top tier in the North American region.

Cloud9 continue to make a strong showing in the VCT Americas League
Many in the community thought this tournament would be a catastrophe for Cloud9. However, the team has slowly proved that these people were nowhere near the truth. The squad continues to show great cohesion within the servers and has kicked off the third week of the VCT Americas League with an excellent 2-0 victory over 100 Thieves.
Don't call it an upset cause they're the real deal.@C9VAL take a commanding 2-0 win to kick off the day! #VCTAmericas

In addition to their victory over 100 Thieves, Cloud9 did the same against EG in the first week. On the other hand, in the second week, Cloud9 suffered their first loss of the tournament, but it was against the current world champions and favorites to win this VCT Americas League, LOUD.
Cloud9 vs. 100 Thieves – Match Recap
Most fans expected Cloud9 to fall short in this tournament, but they were completely wrong.
Cloud9 started, just like in weeks 1 and 2, with an extraordinary victory on the first map (Lotus) with a score of 13-7. Again, teamwork stands out in these early changes in C9, and each player does his job perfectly inside the servers. In addition, they came up against a 100 Thieves team that could not do much more than rely on the individual plays of their players.
In this match, we note that runi had a spectacular match and finished with 156 ADR, 200 ACS, and a 1.38 Rating.

We saw a much more even match in the second match. 100 Thieves woke up in the second half to send the match to Overtime. Undoubtedly, the architect of this awakening was a spectacular ACE by Peter “Asuna” Mazuryk.

However, in the Overtime, Cloud9 again showed great power play and took the victory in consecutive rounds to take the series 2-0.
Rookie performance surprises
There is no doubt that the performance of runi and Jakee continues to be outstanding, surprisingly more than one. However, the team’s expectations are much higher than we imagined. After C9’s loss to LOUD in week 2, Matthew “mCe” Elmore, the team’s Head Coach, stated that he was very upset with his team for the way they lost to LOUD.
On the other hand, the coach also stressed that both runi and Jakee have perfectly understood the game and that many people don’t give them the credit they deserve.
