Not only has Mortal Kombat 11 sold over 12 million units since its April 2019 release, but it’s also on track to become the best-selling MK in history! That, in short, is quite an astonishing achievement, and is made all the more impressive given the many FGC titles it had to go up against.

Still, there was never any doubt — Mortal Kombat is a pillar in every sense of the word and will forever have a special place in everyone’s hearts. Moreover, MK11, in particular, is a truly exceptional installment, so it should come as no surprise that so many gamers across the globe flocked to purchase it!

There are other factors, too — MK11 was released for a slew of different platforms, had received 12 stellar DLC characters, new post-release game mechanics, and numerous quality-of-life improvements. All of these things had made it into one of the best MKs of all time (although it’s not without its flaws).

With no more DLC in the works, however, it’s fair to say that MK11’s best days are now behind it. There’s nothing to look forward to, which isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker, but it still warrants a mention.

MK Is Here To Stay (Not That Anyone’s Surprised)

With over 73 million console units sold to date, one thing has been made perfectly clear: Mortal Kombat has not lost its age-old lustre. With nearly three decade’s worth of history, this IP is synonymous with the genre, and it’ll only get better and better as time goes on — NetherRealm always finds new and exciting ways to surprise and blow our minds.

“As Mortal Kombat 11 passes 12 million games sold & pushes the MK franchise over 73 million console games…we wanted to send a massive THANK YOU to all the support Mortal Kombat fans have given us over the years. It means EVERYTHING to us,” said Ed Boon on Twitter.

It still remains to be seen what kind of project NetherRealm will tackle next, but if their track record is anything to go by, we’re sure it’ll be mighty spectacular!
