Indian team True Rippers blames ESL for missing the SPS MASTERS

As a result of passport issues, Marcos Gaming will represent India in the upcoming Snapdragon Brawl Stars Pro Series... Shubh | 29. March 2023

As a result of passport issues, Marcos Gaming will represent India in the upcoming Snapdragon Brawl Stars Pro Series Masters 2023 instead of True Rippers.

After dominating the regional qualifiers, Revenant Esports and True Rippers Esports gained the right to represent India at the upcoming Snapdragon Pro Series Masters in Chiba, Japan, slated for May 2023. Revenant clinched the Brawl Stars India Championships with an unbeaten record at all tiers and took home the top prize of $19,000.

On the other side, True Rippers Esports settled with the second-place reward of $12,000 after getting demolished by Revenant in the supercharged championship match. While Revenant seems ready for Master, which will offer one of the biggest prizes pool for the game to date, Rippers’ dream to represent India on the international stage has been dashed by a contentious ESL decision.

The Real Rippers have been replaced by Marcos Gaming, the third-placed team at the regional qualifiers, as it appears that one of the team members couldn’t get his passport in time. Although this is a legitimate reason to disqualify the squad, Prateek claimed in his Twitter thread that the ESL rulebook permits a roster change ahead of the event.

ESL India faces criticism for uncooperative behavior

The leader of the Real Rippers, Prateek, posted a lengthy thread on his Twitter account criticizing the ESL staff for being unhelpful. He said that his team had asked for a lineup change from the organizers before the start of the Challenge season, but the organizers denied their request.

The Real Rippers’ IGL claimed that True Rippers was not offered any assistance from the organizer after they qualified for the Brawl Stars Masters, even though the organizer had enabled SK Gaming to change their roster back in January. Prateek went on to say that he often received disrespectful responses from the tournament administrator’s staff.

According to the ESL rulebook, a team is allowed to substitute one player between splits but changes cannot be made while the event is still in progress. Although the rulebook does not specifically state whether roster changes are permitted during the Masters, the team has been disqualified because the admin’s decision is considered to be final under the rules.

The Snapdragon Pro Series Masters is scheduled to take place as a LAN event in Chiba Japan from May 13 to May 14. Eight teams representing four different regions will compete for a share of the $200,000 prize pool in the first Snapdragon Pro Series Masters 2023.
