Clem is the Champion of DH SC2 Masters 2022 Atlanta: Europe

DH SC2 Masters 2022 Atlanta: Europe went exactly as everyone had anticipated. But it nearly didn’t. Both Joona “Serral” Sotala and Riccardo “Reynor” Romiti were in great shape and came close to stealing the victory from the man of the hour, Clement “Clem” Desplanches.

The Terran player ended up winning the tournament but he had to win four consecutive maps to do it. This was one of the most epic Grand Finals in the history of StarCraft 2. Reynor started with a one-game advantage because he won the upper bracket and then won the first two games of the match.

But when everyone had lost faith in Clem, he came back and proved to the world that his understanding of Terran and TvZ is second to none.

Overall impressions

The playoffs of DH SC2 Masters 2022 Atlanta started with some surprising results. Serral had to play against Clem in the first upper bracket match but instead of losing, he won by winning three consecutive maps.

After his defeat, Clem was doubted by some of his fans, who had expected him to win the tournament and were now in an unpleasant situation. Their expectations had been subverted and there was only one guy to blame.

What people didn’t know at the time was Clem’s level of determination. After all, this was one of the most important SC2 tournaments of the year and he had probably trained hard for it.

In the lower bracket, the French player defeated Lambo, MaxPax, HeRoMaRinE, and ShoWTimE before encountering Serral for a rematch. Serral ended up playing in the lower bracket final because he lost the upper bracket final against Reynor. The match was very close but in the end, the Italian proved to be stronger than Serral in ZvZ.

The rematch between Clem and Serral was nothing like the first match. Clem had obviously learned from his mistakes and the tactics used by the Finnish player no longer worked. This resulted in a different kind of battle and everything seemed to favor Clem. Serral only won the third map, Tropical Sacrifice.

In the Grand Final, the ZvT matchup delighted the audience. We rarely see ZvP or PvT Grand Finals in Europe, so people have come to learn to love the ZvT, which is quite fun to watch.

The action is fast-paced and the Zerg is constantly playing defensive until the mid portion of the game. If the Terran doesn’t seriously hinder his plans in the first 5-10 minutes, the game is usually lost. Clem knew this all too well, so he worked hard to prevent Reynor’s Zerg from becoming invincible. And he succeeded.

DH SC2 Masters 2022 Atlanta: Europe was a qualifier for the upcoming tournament in Atlanta, set to run between November 18-20. Four tickets to the event were up for grabs in the European qualifier, with Clem, Reynor, Serral, and ShoWTimE claiming their spots.
