FromSoftware’s gothic action RPG Bloodborne returns to action in a couple of days with the “Return to Yharnam ”... Stalingrad | 20. March 2024

FromSoftware’s gothic action RPG Bloodborne returns to action in a couple of days with the “Return to Yharnam ” community event on March 24. This fan-driven event invites all Bloodborne players new and old to create brand-new characters and unleash the game’s co-op and PvP multiplayer modes in force.

What is Return to Yharnam?

Return to Yharnam is a once a year community event organized by diehard Bloodborne fans to reestablish the game’s online following and player base. Later on, with fewer players in Bloodborne’s cooperative and competitive multiplayer it becomes much more difficult to enjoy over the years. But Return to Yharnam hopes to change that by persuading players to take on brand-new games within two weeks.

From 24 March to 7 April, hunters are encouraged to make new characters and do as much cooperation as they can while traveling through Yharnam and its nightmare worlds. Event rules also encourage plenty of PvP action – players must kill at least two player-controlled hostile hunters in each location before continuing on.

Why Should You Join 2024’s Return to Yharnam?

Among the many reasons why this year’s Return to Yharnam may still be Bloodborne fans ‘most important release yet:

  • Bloodborne’s Age and Low Player Base As a PlayStation 4 exclusive released in 2015, Bloodborne has had a very low active player Base for the last 9 years. For populated multiplayer experiences like this, consistent activity is crucial in games such as this. Return to Yharnam 2024 is a fantastic opportunity for both newcomers and returning players to revisit From’s masterpiece in a bustling co-op and PvP community.
  • No Remaster or Sequel News Despite years of hopeful rumors, FromSoftware has yet to announce whether a Bloodborne Remaster, remake, sequel or even a PC port will be coming. Given how long Elden Ring DLC development has clearly consumed the team’s time, it could be a while before we hear any official Bloodborne revisitation from the studio. The Return to Yharnam 2024 event, meanwhile, brings the game’s growing fan base back to life.
  • Build Excitement for Future Announcements While Return to Yharnam is a fan-driven effort, a 2024 show bringing tens of thousands of players back could tempt FromSoftware and Sony to make an announcement. A sudden player influx could rekindle internal interest in revisiting the Bloodborne IP after years of hype. At least it would demonstrate there is a hungry audience out there willing to spew insight their way.

What to Do to Participate Effectively

A few things to know about Return to Yharnam 2024: For new or returning hunters keen to take up the call this year:

  • Create a new character (avoid using save files from previous games) – Play the entire game from beginning to end – exploring all paths and optional locations.
  • Ring the Beckoning Bell as often as possible to participate in as many co-op sessions as possible.
  • When entering new areas, ring the Sinister Resonant Bell to invade other players’ worlds for PvP – Rate up any “You’re in the know, right?” player messages found near lanterns to help identify other participants

By following those guidelines, players can experience the regenerated Bloodborne community and the game’s fantastic Gothic world (chock full of friendly or helpless phantoms) first hand. The event period is the perfect time to tackle Bloodborne’s lengthy length with a targeted influx of other dedicated fans.

What’s in the Future?

While Return to Yharnam 2024 will undoubtedly be an outstanding opportunity to see Bloodborne in action, there are still many fans hoping for official confirmation of the IP’s fate. Possibilities that have been discussed include:

  • Bloodborne Remaster or Remake: Not a full sequel per se, but a remastered or remastered version of the original – complete with visual tweaks, gameplay tweaks and quality of life tweaks could breathe new life into the slammed-boxed action hero of Bloodborne on consoles today such as PS5 and PC. There have been reports that potential studios like Bluepoint Games would take on such a project.
  • Bloodborne 2 or Sequel: With the first game being a critical and commercial smash, gamers want a full-fledged sequel in the same Lovecraftian universe. Lore: Bloodborne 2 would likely have more characters, locations and monstrosities to fight against.
  • Port of Bloodborne – PC: At least the original game is supposedly getting ported to PC. This would increase player numbers and make Bloodborne’s brilliant Souls-like gameplay and atmosphere more palatable to a wider PC gaming audience.

Whatever happens after Return to Yharnam 2024 ends in early April, From Software’s gruesome opus has a bright future ahead. The fan event itself will provide a rare glimpse at Bloodborne’s power in a reenergized audience. Anyone hunting who would like to answer the call should start looking for their old saw cleaver soon. On March 24 the nightmare will begin again.
