The most exciting thing about every edition of the ESL Pro League is that we will always have surprises in some of the stages of the tournament, and Season 18 has been no exception. After the exit of several favorite teams in the Group Stage, everything seemed to indicate that the other Tier 1 teams would have an “easier” path to victory in the tournament.
However, this is far from the truth. After an intense series defined by 3 maps, MOUZ got an extraordinary and surprising 2-1 victory over G2 Esports to take them down in the ESL Pro League S18 quarterfinals.
There is no doubt that this is a hard blow for G2 Esports, who looked very strong and favorites to win the tournament, as very few Tier 1 teams are left in the final stages. On the other hand, MOUZ continues to ratify their excellent level of play, and their 2-0 victories over FURIA and FaZe Clan were no coincidence.
Let’s see what happened in the MOUZ and G2 Esports match in the ESL Pro League S18 quarterfinals.
MOUZ beat G2 Esports by 2-1
MOUZ surprised everyone on the scene by beating FaZe Clan with a resounding 2-0 win, but these same people were sure that their run would end in the quarterfinals against G2. However, Ádám “torzsi” Torzsás, Kamil “siuhy” Szkaradek, and MOUZ thought otherwise and confirmed it with an extraordinary 2-1 victory over the powerful G2 Esports squad.
The series took place in Mirage, Ancient and Inferno.
Mirage
It all started in Mirage, MOUZ’s map pick, where we had a back-and-forth match in which either of the two could have won.
In the first half, G2 Esports started strong with a partial victory by 8-7, giving them some breathing space after 15 intense rounds. However, at the change of sides, things did not change at all, and after an exchange of rounds, MOUZ was able to take an excellent 16-13 victory.

Ancient
Then, the teams moved to Ancient, the G2 Esports map pick, where we had another very intense match full of emotions from start to finish.
In the first half and, for the second map in a row, G2 Esports took a partial victory by 9-6, making their intentions to even the series 1-1 very clear. However, MOUZ did not keep its arms crossed and began to win rounds to set off alarm bells in G2. Finally, G2 Esports stopped MOUZ’s comeback to take the 16-14 victory and even the series 1-1.

Inferno
Finally, the teams parked themselves in Inferno to define the fourth and final semifinalist of this ESL Pro League S18.
Unlike the first two maps, MOUZ started extremely well in the first half, with a partial victory by 9-6 on their CT Side. Then, at the change of sides, G2 Esports’ defense completely disappeared, and, with an unexpected twist, MOUZ was able to win 7 out of the 8 rounds played to seal their victory with a resounding 16-7 score.
As a result, MOUZ joins NaVi, Monte, and ENCE as the 4 semifinalists of this ESL Pro League S18.
