Stage 2 of DreamLeague S20 is about to end and four teams are still struggling to secure a playoffs spot.

For BetBoom Team and PSG.LGD, that spot is guaranteed at this point because they both have a record of 5 W – 1 L with just one match left to play. Gaimin Gladiators’ record is 4 W – 2 L, while Evil Geniuses, Talon Esports, and Team Spirit all have the same score: 3 W – 3 L.

Normally, Talon would have been doomed by now. But they miraculously won against BetBoom in round 6 and will now get the opportunity to qualify for the playoffs by defeating Team Spirit in round 7. Based on what we’ve seen from them so far, their odds of success are quite high.

Talon vs. BetBoom: 2-1

This match had three games of similar length: ~36 minutes. The first game was won by BetBoom and it looked like Talon would lose. Their Puck, Underlord, and Slark combination failed badly against BetBoom’s much easier-to-execute draft. By the 10-minute mark, the networth difference was already 5000.

In game 2, the two teams were almost even for the first 10 minutes. After that, Talon started to make excellent use of their Mirana and Ember. This led to a series of kills that gave them a good gold advantage and more importantly, map control.

Despite BetBoom’s efforts, which brought the game back to even by the 24-minute mark, Talon won thanks to having a farmed Ember and a very strong Terrorblade. BetBoom’s Juggernaut was completely overwhelmed by the damage output of their opponents.

Game 3 looked very interesting. BetBoom decided to steal Talon’s Silencer and they also picked Techies. But that created some draft vulnerabilities.

These vulnerabilities were made more severe by the fact that BetBoom also picked Doom, Faceless Void, and Pangolier, three heroes that offer very little crowd control when they don’t have their ultimates available.

Talon took full advantage of the situation and picked heroes that have the capacity to overwhelm their opponents if there aren’t any stuns available: Ember Spirit, Morphling, Spirit Breaker, Dark Seer, and Elder Titan.

Even from the laning phase, it was obvious that Talon had a big advantage. By the 13-minute mark, that advantage had resulted in a 4300 networth lead. This lead didn’t grow very much in the next 15 minutes, but it was sufficient to win the game.
