Dota 2 has more than 120 heroes. Among them, at least a dozen are excellent for the position 4 role. When you play this role in Dota 2 patch 7.35c, you are expected to support your cores and roam to some extent, helping wherever a lane needs you most or offers the best opportunity for a kill.

Here are some of the best position 4 heroes for Dota 2 patch 7.35c.

Earthshaker

earthshaker

Valve

Earthshaker is a highly reliable hero. The longer the game goes, the more powerful he becomes. His ability to farm is enhanced by Enchant Totem, which gives him +400% bonus damage as well as 40% cleave damage.

This means that you can attack jungle creeps with tremendous power. This ability has a 5s cooldown, essentially giving you at least eight additional attacks for a fight that lasts for 5s or more. In fact, it gets even better. Because you can start the fight with the buff applied to your hero and the ability off-cooldown. So you can hit once, reapply it immediately, and hit again.

After 5s, you reapply it and hit again. This practically means that in a 5-6s duration fight, ES will deal 12 extra attacks just thanks to his bonus damage. Add to those attacks around 6 more regular attacks and you have a hero that can attack the equivalent of 18 times in 6s, which is an average of 3 attacks per second.

Who else can do this?… Probably Morphling in the late game. But you don’t need to get to the late game because you can do it at level 7. And that’s why Earthshaker is a scary hero to play against.

If he builds any kind of damage and takes the +30 base damage talent at level 10, his DPS becomes insanely high for the early game. From that point on, he only needs mobility and stats.

Earthshaker has excellent abilities that are designed to stun and heavily damage the enemy team. They’re also designed to counter illusion-based heroes like Phantom Lancer. If you catch him with your Echo Slam while he’s near his illusions, he will 100% from that and one or two Enchant Totem hits, even if he starts with thousands of HP.

Earthshaker’s Fissure provides a reliable long-range stun that can also block the path of enemy heroes and disjoint a team during fights. The duration of the ridge is 8s and the range you can cast it from is 1600. The damage is not very high but the combination between the ability’s damage and disables is powerful.

Whenever you use an ability, enemies in a 350 radius will take 160 damage thanks to your Aftershock, which is a powerful passive ability.

When you play Earthshaker, you need to decide early on what you want to do. If your goal is to farm as much as possible in the early game, buy yourself items that give you stats and damage first. They don’t need to be powerful. Just enough to enhance your Enchant Totem to the point where jungle camps die quickly.

Sooner or later, you will need a Blink Dagger and then an Aghanim’s Scepter. You can go the other way too. These items will greatly improve your mobility, allowing you to kill enemies with ease and then escape immediately.

Rubick

rubick

Valve

Rubick is one of the best heroes in Dota 2 for disrupting enemy combos. This hero makes the enemy team afraid of using ultimates. Enigmas absolutely detest Rubick because Black Hole has a relatively low radius. This makes it easy for Rubick to steal his ultimate and counterinitiate if he has a Blink Dagger.

Rubick currently has a low win rate because most players don’t know how to use and pick him properly. But it’s obvious that despite the 45.4% win rate, the Dota 2 community loves this hero. His pickrate is 15.6%.

Rubick has good single-target control abilities. His Telekinesis allows him to keep an enemy immobilized for 3.2s.

Fade Bolt decreases attack damage by 5 – 35% and damages targets for 100 – 325. The debuff lasts for 10s. After it’s maximized, which should happen at level 7, Rubick gives his team a big advantage in fights because of this damage reduction. If you also have a Vengeful Spirit on your side, the damage output between the two teams will be huge.

Rubick’s Arcane Supremacy gives him +240 cast range. You can further amplify that range by purchasing an Aether Lens. The total bonus will be 465, which is enormous. It practically allows you to stay far behind your cores and assist them with whatever is needed without risking your life. Just make sure to place a Sentry Ward nearby, in case your enemies try to surround you.

Rubick’s ultimate, Spell Steal, can be used from a range of 1400 and the ability you steal will be usable for 180s – 300s. But the great part is that your ult gives that ability 10 – 30% more potency and the cooldown of Spell Steal is just 16 – 4s, which means that you can quickly change your stolen spells during fights.

When playing Rubick, you need to buy yourself an Aether Lens, a Blink Dagger, a Glimmer Cape, a Force Staff, a Ghost Scepter, or any other item that improves your survivability and impact.

Chen

chen

Valve

In professional matches, Chen is a highly respected hero because he provides an early game potential that’s almost unrivaled. His zoo is very powerful if the enemy team has little farm and is low level. But in amateur matches, you rarely see Chen because such matches lack structure and cohesion.

Without a clear strategy that allows your team to push relentlessly and take objectives almost every minute, Chen’s power dissipates and he becomes less useful than other support heroes. That’s why less than 1% of all Dota 2 matches feature him. And even then, the win rate is only around 46%.

Chen can use his Penitence to slow movement speed by 30% for 5 – 8s and give himself +80 attack speed and 50 – 350 bonus attack range. It’s a shame that this hero doesn’t have a proper way of dealing right-click damage without buying some damage items. But the buff is still good in the early game.

Holy Persuasion gives Chen the ability to control enemy or netural creeps of various levels. He can have up to 4 of them. These creeps gain HP, movement speed, and damage when they become his summons.

Divine Favor provides excellent armor and HP regen. It also allows Chen to teleport his units to himself.

Chen’s ultimate, Hand of God, offers 150 – 350 HP regen instantly, plus an additional 20 – 40 HP regen per second for 8s. If you can buy a Mekansm on top of this, your team will benefit from more than 500 HP regen at level 6. This allows you to push tier 1 towers without fearing that you might lose the fight.

You need to be very far behind in farm to lose early game team fights when you have a Chen with Mekansm. But in pubs, people don’t understand that Dota 2 is about taking objectives and winning. They just want to farm at that point, making this brief advantage useless in many cases.

However, if you can communicate with your teammates and tell them what the plan is, they might listen and you can win very quickly using Chen.

Spirit Breaker

spirit breaker

Valve

Spirit Breaker is completely overpowered at every stage of the game. In the first 10 minutes, he is very hard to kill and can easily gank thanks to his Charge of Darkness. By the time he’s level 3, he can already put pressure on the mid lane. While he’s under the effect of this ability, he gains 275 – 425 movement speed.

Another ability that gives SB mobility is Bulldoze. This ability can be used during a charge and will boost his movement speed by 8 – 20%. His status resistance will also increase by 40 – 70%. These buffs lasts for 8s, which is enough time to complete a charge and then escape with your life if needed.

Spirit Breaker’s Greater Bash stuns for 1.5s and deals 40% MS as damage at level 4. It has a 17% chance to bash enemies with a cooldown of just 1.2s. Thanks to this ability, SB can be used as a right-clicker to control key enemy heroes during the mid portion of the game.

Nether Strike deals 175 – 325 damage but the best part about it is the knockback and the stun it applies to the enemy hero. At level 3, it has a cooldown of just 30s, which means that you can use it very often. Thanks to it, SB controls the map with ease and ganks relentlessly during the mid game.

When playing this hero, it’s generally a good idea to buy yourself items like Phase Boots, Silver Edge, Bracer, Blade Mail, Octarine Core, and Hand of Midas. A Black King Bar can also be useful in some cases.

Anything that enhances your initiation and escapes is a welcome addition to your inventory because your job will generally be to initiate, tank damage, and then get out alive while you still can.

Skywrath Mage

skywrath mage

Valve

Skywrath Mage is a powerful damage dealer that can completely ruin the opposing team’s laning phase by spamming Arcane Bolt and Concussive Shot. Once you have enough mana and mana regen, Skywrath can deal tremendous amounts of damage every 5 – 2s, from a long range.

That damage is based on his intelligence, which is why it’s a good idea to buy intelligence items in the early game. If you can gain even a small amount of extra intelligence on top of what you already have and gain per level, by the time you’re level 7, you are already a monster.

Concussive Shot slows movement speed by 40% for 4s and deals 300 damage at level 4. You can cast it from a range of 1600, which can be further amplified with Aether’s Lens.

Ancient Seal silences a target for 3 – 6s and causes it to take 20 – 35% more magic damage. So if you have more than one hero that deals a lot of magic damage, Skywrath Match’s abilities will offer great damage buffs to your team.

The hero’s ultimate, Mystic Flare, deals 800 – 1600 damage over just 2s, and its cooldown is 60 – 20s. This ability is very powerful against opponents with low mobility, and can be used in conjunction with Rod of Atos for maximum effectiveness. Luckily, this item, which roots enemies for 2s, costs just 2250 gold and offers +15 intelligence and +300 HP.

All of these benefits greatly enhance Skywrath’s capabilities. But you can go one step further and buy additional items that offer intelligence, spell damage amplification, and mana.

Skywrath is often hunted down by his enemies because he is too dangerous to be left alive. If you understand this, you can prepare for their offensive moves in advance. Positioning is key when playing this hero. Always stay near allies that can save you from dangerous situations and pay attention to what is happening around you so that you can pull the trigger first.

When playing SM, your capacity to apply Ancient Seal quickly will often be enough in the early game because a 6s silence destroys any foe. Using your Rod’s Cripple can also work well. Later, when enemies have BKBs, you will need to be much more careful. At that point, having a Blink Dagger or a Force Staff tends to help a lot.

Your item build should include items like Arcane Boots, Rod of Atos, Aghanim’s Scepter, Aether Lens, Ethereal Blade, Glimmer Cape, Force Staff, and Blink Dagger.
