Day 2 of Roobet Cup was full of surprising results. Both group C and group D featured spectacular matches, two of which were won by the underdogs.

Group C results

In group C of Roobet Cup 2023, the first two matches were Astralis vs. 9INE, and BIG vs. Apeks. Astralis were supposed to beat 9INE, while BIG were regarded as the favorites against Apeks.

In the end, BIG won their game but Astralis were defeated by their Polish opponents. The match was really difficult for both sides, and would have been won by Astralis if device was in better shape. But unfortunately for the Danes, he finished with a score of 25–31, which is not that great given his team’s expectations.

The two Astralis members who are expected to carry the team are him and blameF. The other three might have an occasional game when they deliver above and beyond what is expected of them, but for the most part, nobody sees them as the carries.

The scores were 9-13 on Ancient and 11-13 on Mirage. As I mentioned before, both maps were challenging and could have gone either way.

In the match between BIG and Apeks, the German side got hard-carried by Krimbo (44-27) and tabseN (38-38). Mantuu also did a great job and finished the match with 41 kills and 28 deaths. The scores were 13-7 on Vertigo and 16-13 on Anubis.

Group D results

In group D, Monte defeated OG without any problems and this was completely expected. The team led by sdy is very strong at the moment and had a lot of important results in the last six months, including a 5th – 8th place at the Paris Major and a 3rd – 4th place at ESL Pro League S18.

Meanwhile, OG did absolutely nothing this year and lost their best players. At the moment, they’re not even a top 30 team anymore. By contrast, Monte is ranked 9th. So the scores (13-5 on Mirage and 13-7 on Anubis) shouldn’t surprise us.

The second match in this group took place between Fnatic and Ninjas in Pyjamas. Fnatic’s roster is pretty solid, while NiP changed their IGL right before this tournament. Naturally, the expectation was that Fnatic would completely crush them. But that didn’t happen.

After losing the first map, Inferno (13-9), NiP came back and played really well on Ancient (10-13) and Overpass (2-13). What’s remarkable is that they did this with maxter standing in for Brollan.
