Day 3 of DreamLeague S20 ended with more surprises for the teams that were considered to be among the favorites. Given that only four of the eight participants will advance to the playoffs, every match is important.

BetBoom Team and PSG.LGD seem to have escaped from the rest of the pack. Both of them obtained three consecutive victories and will likely qualify for the playoffs with just one or two more wins in their last four matches.

Talon Esports also had a good first half in stage 2 of DreamLeague S20, winning two of their first three matches. But the rest of the teams got abysmal results. And we’re talking about big names here: 9Pandas (1 W – 2 L), Evil Geniuses (1 W – 2 L), Gaimin Gladiators (1 W – 2 L), Team Spirit (1 W – 2 L), and Team Aster (0 W – 3 L).

At this point it’s clear that the online format does not work well for some of the competitors, who used to dominate LAN events just a short while ago. In the case of Gaimin Gladiators, the transition from winning the first two DPC Majors to losing best-of-three matches against multiple opponents is quite shocking.

Before the start of this tournament, everyone was sure that Gladiators would be the next TI champions. There was absolutely no one that seemed capable of beating them. Now, it seems, the situation has changed dramatically.

Day 3 results

On day 3 of DreamLeague S20, Gaimin Gladiators won 2-0 against Team Spirit. In both games, Gladiators used Enchantress, a hero that proved to be very hard to counter. Spirit tried a Drow strategy in game 1 and lost in just 33 minutes.

In game 2, they tried a Sniper plus Ember Spirit plus Lifestealer combo. This game was hard for both sides and lasted 53 minutes. But in the end, Quinn “Quinn” Callahan’s Huskar proved to be too much to handle.

In the other three matches, Talon defeated 9Pandas (2-0), PSG.LGD won another match against Evil Geniuses (2-1), and BetBoom administered Aster their third defeat of stage 2 (2-0).

The most brutal game of the day took place between PSG.LGD and EG. In the first game of the series, the Chinese team won in just 15 minutes, which is an extremely rare event. The score was 28-5, which explains why PSG.LGD had a 10.000 gold advantage at the 12-minute mark.
