Worlds 2022 Knockout Stage begins with a JDG vs. Rogue clash

The playoffs of Worlds 2022 are about to start and the first match will be Rogue’s biggest test yet at this tournament. Andrei “Odoamne” Pascu’s team has had a great season, winning LEC Summer with a 3-0 victory over G2 Esports and surviving the group stage of Worlds with a record of 4 W – 2 L.

We know for sure that Rogue are a strong team that can surprise even the strongest competitors on the planet. Top Esports and DragonX have already felt their might in the group stage. But most analysts will agree that JD Gaming are a completely different beast.

After all, this is the team that won the Summer Split in LPL this year and their record in the group stage of Worlds was almost flawless. Their only defeat came against DAMWON Gaming, in the sixth match of group B.

The other two teams that played in this group were Evil Geniuses and G2 Esports. Both of them were defeated by the Chinese champions and the matches weren’t even close.

Rogue have a good chance of winning the match but they are still the underdog. It’s more likely that they will lose with a score of 1-3 or maybe even 2-3. But they’re certainly not without hope. Their group stage victory against Top Esports, who nearly bested JD in the Grand Final of LPL Summer, proves that they are capable of winning.

The other three Knockout Stage matches

The remaining quarterfinals are all tough and they involve only South Korean and Chinese teams. This year, seven of the eight main event participants are from these two regions, which is a clear sign that Europe and North America are no longer the forces they were in the past.

The second quarterfinal will be played between T1 and Royal Never Give Up. Some will say that RNG are perfectly capable of beating T1 because they already did that once at MSI 2022. But the truth is that Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok is hungrier than ever to win the trophy. And his team will be very hard to stop.

In the last two quarterfinals, Gen.G Esports will fight against DAMWON Gaming, and DragonX will play versus EDward Gaming. Based on the seeding, Gen.G Esports are very likely to win until they qualify for the Grand Final. And most will agree that they are one of the big favorites to win the trophy.

In the DragonX versus EDG quarterfinal anything can happen. The two teams are separated by a small margin and the winner will be decided by their tournament form.
