The salaries of esports professionals in India are becoming increasingly competitive. Even many players and coaches earn more than traditional esports athletes. Recently Amit “Amit” Dubey, the coach of Team SouL, revealed the salary of both coaches and some players.

This article will discuss the different salaries of esports professionals in India.

Salaries of esports professionals in India

Recently in a live stream, Amit “Amit” Dubey, the coach of Team SouL of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), commented on the salaries of different professionals in India.

According to Amit, his starting salary at Legstump hovered around ₹20,000, but within a short time, he saw a salary increase; it quadrupled at a boom time. On the other hand, the coach says, Tier 1 players generally have six-figure salaries depending on the organization. In turn, the coaches of these Tier 1 players are paid at least ₹50,000.

Amit, in response to a question asked by a viewer on his live stream, comments that before the Battlegrounds Mobile India ban, his salary reached up to ₹80,000. This fact, however, curbed his rise.

Amit comments:

“My starting salary in LS was less than 20,000; it doubled again, and subsequently, the game was outlawed. After that, the salary was around ₹80,000, usually between 70,000 and 80,000. It was the highest pay I had ever received. It ranged from ₹60,000 to ₹80,000 with a 10% tax deduction. After-tax deductions, I used to draw a salary of about ₹50,000, plus I received extra money from Loco.”

On the other hand, Amit also comments that after the BGMI ban, neither S8UL Esports nor Loco paid him a salary.

“So far, everything has been fine, but I no longer receive a salary from the company or Loco, so nothing for now. With a 33% deduction from YouTube, all my current income comes from Superchats.”

In addition to talking about his salary, Amit gave some facts about the salaries of coaches and tier 1 players in the Indian esports market. While acknowledging that it’s not common for people to disclose their pay scales, he estimated that T1 coaches typically earn at least ₹50,000.

“However, T1 player salaries often vary by organization. T1 players typically earn six-figure salaries. While not all companies pay six-figure salaries, most of the ones I know of do.”

It is unknown if BGMI will ever be available in the country again. As Amit pointed out, many companies have stopped paying salaries for their players and coaches due to the unavailability of the game.
