Virtus.pro were expected to be a strong team at BLAST Premier Spring Groups, but certainly not to win their group. It seems that Jame and his crew are back to playing at the level they played back in November 2022, when they won the IEM Rio Major.

In 2023, VP won several important tournaments, such as Roobet Cup and CCT Online Finals #2, clearly proving that they still know how Counter-Strike works. But we did not expect them to perform so well in CS2, given their rare successes in the biggest S-tier events in the latter part of 2023.

Virtus.pro played in the easiest group at BLAST Premier Spring Groups, having opponents like BIG, Cloud9, and Heroic. They didn’t get to play against Heroic because the Danes were crushed by Cloud9 and then BIG. But they did get to play against the other two teams.

VP’s road to victory

Virtus.pro started BLAST Premier Spring Groups with a 2 – 0 victory over BIG. The Germans were absolutely crushed by their opponents. The scores were 13 – 5 on Overpass and 13 – 8 on Vertigo. What’s even more impressive is that this dominant win was obtained despite a modest performance from Jame (21 – 23) and mir (18 – 25).

On BIG, tabseN was the only one who had a positive score. The team was buried by s1n’s performance, who finished with just 14 frags and 29 deaths.

VP’s next opponent was Cloud9, who were expected to win the match. In recent months, Boombl4’s leadership proved to be very effective, so there was no reason to suspect that C9 would not be able to win this battle. But despite their best efforts and excellent performance on the second map, Anubis (10 – 13), the North American side still lost (2 – 1).

Everyone on VP did well in this match, from FL1T (43 – 38) to mir (31 – 33). Meanwhile, on Cloud9 several players struggled. The only one who had a positive score was Perfecto (44 – 35). When a match gets really complicated, his experience as a former Natus Vincere player helps him a lot.

In the Grand Final, Virtus.pro did not have to play Cloud9 again, because the NA team lost against BIG in the lower bracket Final (0 – 2). This made it easy for the Russians to win and qualify for BLAST Premier Spring Final. The scores were 13 – 10 on Overpass and 13 – 6 on Anubis.
