After three months of many problems in its Counter-Strike: Global Offensive division, the North American organization Evil Geniuses has begun restructuring for the rest of the season by signing Ismail “refrezh” Ali.
This is common at this stage of the year; after teams fail to qualify for the Majors, they begin to prepare their lineups for the season’s future.
Evil Geniuses confirms the signing of refrezh
After several weeks of rumors on social media, Evil Geniuses has confirmed the signing of former Heroic and Sprout player Ismail “refrezh” Ali. According to various reports, the 25-year-old Dane comes to the lineup to replace Jadan “HexT” Postma in the team’s IGL position.

Undoubtedly, this is the first big change to come to the competitive CS:GO scene. We say this because of how big the player’s name is and how important Evil Geniuses is in the regional and international scene.
While it is true that a change of leader in the game would be what Evil Geniuses would need to get out of the bad moment in which it finds itself, many community members believe otherwise. Different users on Twitter and Reddit claim that for Evil Geniuses to return to its peak, they need to do a total lineup reshuffle, not a single player.
This is just sad, I like refrezh but this is not the team the org needed. You were meant to build up NA cs not take the few experienced players and mix them with european for rosters that have and will continue to achiece nothing. #justiceforEgBlack

Then, there’s also the fact that Evil Geniuses continue with their blueprint of a ten-player lineup. Now, we will have to see how refrezh adapts to this situation and the constant changes in the team due to player rotation.
On the other hand, many fans claim that refrezh does not have the aggressiveness and firepower that EG needs to turn their situation around. In addition, the rest of EG’s lineup has not been consistent when measured against top-tier opponents.
Another part of the community has high expectations
While this news has many detractors, others believe that refrezh is just what Evil Geniuses needs to be at its best possible level.
Refresh + Junior and adjustments and I think EG might just make a comeback in the NA scene.

Remember that refrezh was a key part of Heroic’s success a few seasons ago and has the experience to lift the spirits of this great organization.
Refrezh needs to show his best side
Before this signing, refrezh spent a few months as Sprout’s IGL. However, Dane’s level did not meet expectations at this stage. During the first six months of his stay at Sprout, refrezh was the IGL of the team, but then he resigned from his position because he had a lot of problems handling all the responsibilities.
It’s with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to @refrezhCS from our active roster. Due to different views on the project, we have made a mutual agreement to put him on the transfer list. We’re grateful for his commitment and the memories, especially our run to the 🇧🇷 Major! 💚 🌱 pic.twitter.com/3DC8avlmRU

Now, refrezh comes to an EG team that has not had a good season. Moreover, they come from being eliminated from the RMR of the Americas for the BLAST.tv Paris Major, after losing to FURIA and Paqueta. On the other hand, it should be noted that the team has been in a complicated situation for more than two years, and the only important victory was against Heroic.
For now, we can only wait and see how refrezh will perform in his new team and if this addition will positively impact EG.
