In the last few hours, CS2 developers Valve announced a new update for the Counter-Strike 2 limited test, where some changes were made to the smokes; Italy was also introduced as a map.

This marks the end of Anubis and Ancient as playable maps in CS2, but there is no doubt that the Smoke update may be the most striking feature of this update. While it is true that the update seems to have returned the smoke mechanics to their “roots,” it is still very striking how we observe them.

Valve announce a new patch for CS2

While the community continues to await the official release of CS2, Valve continues to give no hints about it. Instead, the developers are constantly updating the game to improve its mechanics and, at the time of the launch, to do it in style.

This time, Valve released a patch that includes Italy as a new playable map, and, in addition, they “tweaked” how we observe the smoke grenades in the game. As a result of this “tweak,” the smoke grenades are very similar to the ones we have seen in the last 10 years in CS:GO.

As we observed in the animation shared by Valve on its official Twitter account, the dispersion of smoke from the grenades decreased significantly. Likewise, we are sure that the gameplay will continue to be phenomenal. In addition, this also makes us think that players will have to use smoke grenades almost perfectly (just like in CS:GO) when planning a strategy. For example, to be able to enter “Secret” in Nuke or to advance to “Ramp” from “A Site” in Dust 2.

Smokes are the most notable change in CS2

The moment Valve announced the arrival of CS2 and revealed some details, there is no doubt that smoke grenades were the main topic of conversation. Most players with access to the CS2 limited test and those who watch the games through platforms such as Twitch and YouTube were satisfied with how the smoke from this grenade was dispersed. However, the latest patch makes us think Valve might have realized they went “too far.”

Similarly, the only thing Valve pointed out in the latest patch was the decrease in the dispersion of smoke grenades and that they also referred to the actual smoke in CSGO. However, other mechanics remain the same, such as the gap left by bullets and grenades.

CS2 is just around the corner

On the other hand, it is also worth noting that, with this new patch to the game, we may be that much closer to the official release of CS2. However, the number of steps remaining before we can enjoy the game is currently uncertain.

Regarding the patch, we should mention that Italy has everything in this CS2 beta. Remember that this is a classic Counter-Strike map, which has been on the servers since the 2000s. However, this new release has many changes thanks to the new Source 2 engine. As a result, we have Inferno and Train as the only two maps still to be revealed.
