The very first day in the VCT Pacific Last Chance Qualifiers has come to an end. Talon Esports comfortably defeated DetonatioN FocusMe 2-0 to make it into the upper quarter-finals. Here is a full-day recap of the match between DFM vs Talon Esports.

DetonatioN FocusMe vs Talon Esports

The first match of the day was between Japanese and Thai counterparts. Since the match was decided to take place as best of 3 hence following was the map pool for the match:

  • Fracture (DFM)
  • Ascent (Talon Esports)
  • Pearl (Decider)

Fracture

Starting out as an attacker side, Talon secured four rounds back to back putting tremendous pressure on the opponents. Finally, DFM calmed their nerves and pulled an impressive counterattack by securing five rounds in return. Overall, the first half scored 7-5 in favor of Talon.

Compared to the defender’s role, DFM completely surrendered ahead of Talon in the second half. They were struggling to penetrate the Talon defense as the first match ended with a 13-7 score. Apart from the balanced team effort, it was Apiwat “garnetS” Apiraksukumal who emerged as MVP with 17 kills at 1.19 K/D.

Ascent

After trailing with one map, DFM met Talon on the Ascent which was Talon’s map pick in a do-or-die clash. This time DFM took a strong start by winning four rounds in a row but failed to keep the momentum till the first half end. The first half ended 7-5 much like the first map in favor of Talon.

In the latter half, we see nothing special from DFM as Talon keeps on marching with rounds. At the end of the match, Talon secured the second map as well with a 13-8 score. Patiphan “Patipan” Chaiwong puts on an impressive show with 23 kills at 313 ACS in the controller role.

With this win, Talon has secured the upper quarter-final slot and they will meet against Korean powerhouse GenG tomorrow 19 July.

DetonatioN FocusMe fails to secure a single win in VCT 2023 season

DetonatioN FocusMe has finished their VCT 2023 season after losing to Talon Esports in the first elimination round. Regrettably, DFM now holds the distinction of being the sole team in the Pacific, Americas, and EMEA leagues to finish the season without a single series win. With an uninspiring record of 0-14 since their formation in October 2022, their performance has been disappointing.
