Valve has officially announced that the EEU DPC will be postponed indefinitely due to the war in Ukraine. Almost all players from the EEU DPC are from Russia, Ukraine or neighboring countries and are currently affected by the war.

EEU DPC postponed for the time being

A recent blog post states that the DPC / Dota Pro Circuit for the EEU (Eastern European region) has been postponed due to the war between Russia and Ukraine. Just before the end of the offseason, Valve has officially taken a stance on the current situation, clarifying that they have no choice but to postpone the EEU DPC.

Valve has stated that with the war in Ukraine, it is currently not possible to hold the tournament for the CIS region: “Given the terrible suffering caused by the war in Ukraine, we don’t see any way to hold the Eastern European DPC League as planned in the foreseeable future, and we’re very sorry that we had to postpone the spring tour in one of the community’s most vibrant and historic regions.”

Many players affected by the decision

At the same time, Valve also said that they are still making every effort to allow Eastern European players to participate in the circuit anyway: “We’re in direct contact with all teams and players in the league to see what their individual situations are and if there are ways we can move forward.”

Any number of players are affected by this decision. Almost all players in the EEU DPC are from Ukraine, Russia or neighboring countries that have also been affected by the war. Especially Ukraine has more known Dota 2 players than any other country. Valve made the following statement about this: “Dota is inextricably a global game.

The very name of The International is a testament to a shared celebration of the sport that unites people of all nations into a unique community of passionate fans. Our goals with the tournament and the DPC as a whole have always focused on showcasing the tremendous power of this human connection, which thrives on participation from all parts of the Dota fan community.”

In a few days, on Monday, March 14, the second DPC of the year, the Spring Tour DPC will start. However, CIS Region will not be participating in it, which means there will be only 5 regions instead of 6.

These 5 regions are:

  • North America (NA)
  • China (CN)
  • South America (SA)
  • Southeast Asia (SEA)
  • Western Europe (WEU)

All these tournaments are one race to the mega tournament, The International 11, which will be held again this year. However, due to the war, the ongoing Corona pandemic, and the current elimination of the CIS region, there will most likely be delays.
