TSM and Coach Chawy part ways

While it is true that the entire League of Legends community is watching what happens in the first international event of the 2023 season, the MSI, this “offseason” period is being very hard for TSM and its fans. The organization has decided to let go of some players and board members; this time, Coach Chawy is leaving the team.

These moves are part of a total restructuring that TSM wants to do, given the LCS Summer Split 2023. However, let’s remember that in recent weeks there have been some reports that indicate that the organization is suffering financial problems and, in addition, could put on hold some esports divisions.

On the other hand, there has also been news that Lee “Ruby” Sol-min, one of the best midlaners in the LEC, could be coming from Team Heretics. As a result of this rumor, team fans could be reassured about the organization’s future.

TSM announce Chawy’s departure from the team

Through a post on their Twitter account, the North American organization, TSM, announced that they are parting ways with Wong “Chawy” Xing Lei, who had been their Head Coach for the past two years. Chawy joined TSM at the end of 2021 when the organization faced many difficulties.

Chawy becomes the third member of the team to leave after a long period in the organization. Glen Yang and Kristine Huang also announced their departure from the organization a few months ago.

About Chawy

Chawy, as we mentioned, took the reins of TSM’s LoL division at the end of 2021 to try to straighten out the team’s situation for the 2022 season. In addition, at that time, Chawy had to bring in a completely new team, as the off-season saw the departure of the likes of Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage, Hu “SwordArt” Shuo-Chieh and LCS legend Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg. As a result, TSM decided to sign rookie and inexperienced players to the scene for a “rebuild.”

But, the worst was yet to come for TSM, as the 2022 season was the worst in the organization’s history. The 2022 Spring Split was a disaster for them; they finished in the bottom three in the standings and were barely able to qualify for the playoffs in the summer but were eliminated by EG in the second round.

TSM’s losing streak continued in 2023

After the team failed to qualify for Worlds 2022, the organization had to retool its lineup for 2023, but so far, the team has not worked out. As a result, TSM was left out of the Spring Split playoffs that just ended, and the trend will not change if the team does not make drastic changes and top players for the Summer Split.

While the team has not performed well in recent years, many fans praise Coach Chawy for his good job leading the team through this terrible time.

With Chawy’s departure, the team has been left without a Head Coach heading into the Summer Split. However, in the last few days, Alejandro Gomis published a report detailing that the chosen one to replace Chawy is Seong “Reven” Sang-Hyeon, the former Head Coach of Cloud9’s Challengers team.
