Very bad news for all League of Legends lovers and, above all, those of the LCS. One of the game’s legends and considered one of the best players in history, Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg, announces his retirement from the League of Legends scene and esports.

Undoubtedly, this is not only unexpected but also very sad news for all Riot Games’ MOBA fans. Bjergsen has marked the game’s history and will always be remembered as one of the best in the scene.

Bjergsen announces his retirement with a touching video

As mentioned, North American League of Legends legend Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg announces that he is hanging up his mouse and keyboard for good at the age of 27.

While it is true that Bjergsen’s career has been somewhat complicated at times, as he was unable to raise the desired number of titles, the player has always remained one of the best in the scene. However, after Golden Guardians eliminated 100 Thieves in the playoffs of the LCS Spring Split 2023, the 27-year-old player announced his retirement from League of Legends and esports.

In the video, we can see that Bjergsen says he has worked very hard throughout his career in League of Legends. Remember that he spent 11 years active as a professional in the LCS. On the other hand, like many professionals, when they announce their retirement, he claims that he has stopped spending time with family and friends to focus on his career. In addition, the player refers to having other hobbies he wants to pursue from now on.

Bjergsen also mentioned that this decision was not made overnight. The player states that he discussed it on several occasions with those close to him, and when he felt that he was not performing and could not lead his team to victory, that would be the time to retire.

Bjergsen’s second retirement – is this the final one?

The LCS legend also mentioned that this could be seen as a second retirement, as the player first stepped away from the scene in 2020. However, at that time, he took on the role of 100 TSM Coach, which did not mean retirement for the player himself, as he was working on the scene to achieve a championship.

Things didn’t turn out as Bjergsen and TSM would have imagined, and after one season as Head Coach, he decided to return to the pro scene as a player. As a result, Team Liquid opened its doors to him in 2022.

While this Team Liquid lineup was solid and star-studded, the team did not perform in the best possible way. In addition to underperforming, the team failed to make it to the finals in either of the two splits they played in the LCS. As a result, Bjergsen left the team to look for a new home where he could relaunch his career.

Bjergsen and 100 Thieves

Last offseason, the popular North American organization 100 Thieves announced the signing of Bjergsen, who joined the team alongside his friend and fellow gaming legend Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng.

Throughout the Split, 100 Thieves did not perform exceptionally well, especially at the start of the regular season. However, thanks to a great awakening of the team, they achieved an extraordinary string of seven wins to qualify for the playoffs. Unfortunately, Golden Guardians eventually eliminated them in the quarterfinals of the Lower Bracket of the Spring Split.

Right now, 100 Thieves has to work to find a replacement in the Mid Lane to fill the void left by the LCS legend. But likewise, with resources and time on their side, the organization can easily get a player to fill this position and, most importantly, do it in the best possible way.

On Bjergsen’s part, the player has decided to step away from the esports scene, which leaves a great legacy in the history of the LCS. However, Bjergsen became one of the best players in history, and all fans will always remember him.

From Fragster.com, we appreciate everything Bjergsen gave to the League of Legends scene worldwide. Furthermore, we wish him the best of success in everything to come in his career and his private life.
