JD Gaming crowned MSI 2023 champions

After three weeks of intense play at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK, the MSI 2023 League of Legends has ended, and JD Gaming, the LPL Spring Split 2023 champions, are the tournament’s champions.

JD Gaming demonstrated extraordinary play throughout the tournament, as they won every match they played. With this victory, the team takes home a juicy prize of $50,000 and, most importantly, the trophy of champions of the first international tournament of the league in 2023.

On the other hand, it is worth noting that the tournament was completely dominated the LPL, i.e., the Chinese League of Legends scene. The grand final of the MSI 2023 was between JDG and Bilibili Gaming, champion and runner-up of the LPL Spring 2023.

JD Gaming’s road to the MSI 2023 Grand Final

As we mentioned, JD Gaming won all the matches they played in this MSI 2023, so, their victory is more than deserved. However, it is worth noting that the team started the tournament from the Bracket Stage, as that is one of the privileges they earned by being the champions of the LPL Spring Split 2023.

In the first match of the main event, JD Gaming crushed Golden Guardians, the LCS representatives, with a spectacular 3-0 score. As a result, the team advanced to the semifinals of the Upper Bracket, where they faced their rival throughout the first Split in the LPL, Bilibili Gaming. JDG managed to pull off a crushing 3-0 victory to qualify for the Upper Bracket finals.

JD Gaming then faced T1 in one of the most-watched matches in League of Legends and even broke all records for viewership in this type of tournament. Many thought that the LCK would give the blow on the table to take the victory, but the LPL bit ahead and JDG took a 3-2 victory to qualify for the tournament’s grand final.

JD Gaming vs. Bilibili Gaming – Grand Final Recap

As mentioned, both finalists had met in the semifinals of the Upper Bracket, and many fans were sure that the victory was a foregone conclusion for JDG by 3-0, just like that match several days ago. However, this was not the case, as Bilibili Gaming came in very inspired and was able to offer a lot of resistance.

The teams started this series in the best-of-five (BO5) grand final, with strong and split victories in the first two matches.

JD Gaming then took the lead in the grand final’s third match, which lasted 23:52 minutes. Everything pointed to the fact that with this victory, everything was already defined in the Summoner’s Rift, and so it was.

In the last game, JDG was much more aggressive than in the first three games they had played in this grand final and, with a Zhuo “knight” Ding, who finished with a KDA of 19/7/13, a CSM of 9.3 and a DPM of 677, the team managed to take a comfortable victory to proclaim themselves champions of the first international tournament of 2023.

With this victory for JD Gaming and the LPL, we can say that the Chinese scene is returning to the top of the League of Legends competitive scene. This only makes us think we will have many emotions during the rest of the season, especially in Worlds 2023.
