Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen recently made the move from Old G to PuckChamp and has now spoken out about his former team’s disappointing DPC 2023 Tour 2 campaign.

Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen and the rest of Old G have garnered a lot of attention after recently buying their way into the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) 2023 Division II for Western Europe (WEU) after being disqualified from the closed qualifiers

Old G have landed in the closed qualifier after a lackluster performance during Tour 2 with just two wins from seven games. Topson has explained that the team didn’t function as a cohesive entity and the players acted more as individuals.

Topson shares insights into Old G

Topson appeared on OG’s Monkey Business Show after the ESL One Berlin Major 2023, where he spoke about the team’s failure at Tour 2. In addition to the lack of team chemistry, he primarily cited the poor understanding of the meta and the rising level of competition as reasons for the poor performance.

“I think our vision of the meta and just as a team we didn’t really come together. I think you have to do some kind of boot camp or talk more, really get to know each other. If it doesn’t work out right away, then at least you need to spend more time together and talk a lot. You really have to talk a lot if you want to be on the same wavelength. The competition is definitely much stronger. It’s not enough to be good individually. You also have to be a good team.”

The team faced the crucial tiebreak against PuckChamp, a game that would decide whether they stayed in Division II.

Disqualified for helping other teams

Unfortunately, the team was disqualified due to Roman “Resolut1on” Fomynok and Kartik “Kitrak” Rathi not being able to fill in for Old G, who were temporary substitutes for the BetBoom team and OG at the Berlin Major, and was the team’s campaign in Tour 2 over.
