The VCT Masters Tokyo grand finals have been concluded where Fnatic defeated Evil Geniuses 3-0 to secure the title of Masters. Along with the marvelous trophy, Fnatic has been also awarded a whopping $3,50,000.

Evil Geniuses, the runner-ups, were rewarded with an impressive $200,000. Remarkably, this was their inaugural appearance in any VCT finals, making their performance even more surreal. Additionally, EG’s remarkable feat of eliminating the top seed from every region highlights their exceptional skill.

Undoubtedly, this experience has provided them with invaluable confidence and readiness for the forthcoming Valorant Champions.

Fnatic secured back-to-back VCT international title

There is no contradiction in the fact that Fnatic is on a roll throughout this year. However, we are still in mid of the year but they have already secured back-to-back international titles.

Of course, the first one came after VCT LOCK//IN grand finals where they comfortably defeated Brazil’s LOUD to secure the title. In the same fashion, they defeated Evil Geniuses singly-handedly to get away with the second title.

The Fnatic’s journey from losing first ever VCT Masters in Reykjavik against Sentinels to winning back-to-back titles defeating top teams is truly inspiring.

Match highlights

The grand final was decided to be played as best of five series. However, Fnatic were in no mood to wait that long. Following were maps pool: Lotus(Fnatic), Split(EG), Bind(Fnatic), Ascent(EG), Haven(Decider).

Fnatic, who previously had success on Lotus against EG, started out as attackers ending the first half tied 6-6. Fnatic shift their gear in the second half with exceptional performance, conceding only two rounds and ultimately defeating EG 13-8 and taking a 1-0 early lead in the series.

Fnatic had a strong defensive performance on Split, thanks to Alfajer’s impressive play as Cypher. He held the A site effectively, using his Camera to gain an advantage and strategically positioning himself for valuable information and kills. The first half ended 8-4.

As the match progressed, both teams wisely took timeouts to disrupt each other’s momentum. Eventually, EG’s comeback pulled the tied score 11-11 at one time, with no clear winner in sight. However, Fnatic decided to gear up the aggression with the help of  Nikita “Derke” Sirmitev quick entry frags sealing the map with a 13-11 score.

The third map of Bind will definitely haunt EG’s players after that sort of comeback from Fnatic. The first-half score was in EG’s favor with an 8-4 score. At the end of the 19th round, the score was 12-7. Fans were already assuming Ascent but Fnatic did what they were known for. The champions from EMEA didn’t back down and pushed the game into overtime. With two swift rounds, Fnatic secured their second title of 2023.

EMEA region granted extra slot at Valorant Champions

EMEA, being the victorious region at Masters Tokyo, secures an additional team slot for Valorant Champions 2023. This unique opportunity extends to both the winner and the runner-up of the forthcoming last-chance qualifier, granting them spots in the highly anticipated season-ending tournament.

EMEA stood out at VCT Masters Tokyo, boasting the highest number of teams, once again thanks to Fnatic’s impressive LOCK//IN title victory. NAVI claimed the extra slot but unfortunately finished last after defeats against NRG and EDward Gaming in Japan.

The VCT EMEA Last-Chance Qualifier is scheduled to take place from July 19 to July 23. During this event, six teams will battle it after Vitality’s withdrawal for a chance to secure a spot in the prestigious Valorant Champions 2023 tournament.
