The Grand Final of the Bali Major is about to start and it’s hard not to notice the fact that all of the top-four teams are from Western Europe.

The situation has been like this since The International 2022. At that event, the best three teams were Tundra Esports, Team Secret, and Team Liquid.

After this tournament ended, a new season started and WEU continued to dominate Dota 2’s professional scene. At the Mali Major, Team Liquid and Gaimin Gladiators played in the Grand Final. At the Berlin Major, the same two teams dominated the competition.

Now, at the Bali Major, we once again have a Gladiators vs. Liquid Grand Final. But this time, the 3rd and 4th place teams are also from Western Europe. These teams are Tundra Esports (3rd) and Quest Esports (4th).

Gaimin Gladiators’ run

Gaimin Gladiators started the tournament with a respectable group stage performance: 3 W – 4 D – 1 L. The only team that managed to beat them was BetBoom.

In the playoffs, they did what they always do: win every match and qualify for the Grand Final. Their opponents during this second stage of the Bali Major were beastcoast (2-1), Quest Esports (2-1), Tundra Esports (2-0), and Team Liquid (the match is being played right now).

If successful, Gaimin Gladiators would probably be the most dominant team in the history of Dota 2 for any given season. Nobody in the past won every big tournament in one calendar year. A victory at the Bali Major would give Gladiators their 5th Tier 1 trophy in 2023. There are only two more to be won: Riyadh Masters and TI12.

Team Liquid’s run

Team Liquid won group A with a record of 4 W – 4 D – 0 L and then had a good playoffs run: victory against PSG.LGD (2-1), defeat against Tundra (0-2), victory against 9Pandas (2-1), victory against Quest Esports (2-1), victory against Tundra (2-0), and now we’re waiting for the Grand Final result against Gladiators.

Tundra Esports’ run

Tundra finished the tournament in third place after an impressive group stage run (2 W – 6 D – 0 L) and an excellent playoffs run in which they only lost against Gladiators and Liquid.

Quest Esports’ run

For Quest, this event clearly cemented their reputation as a top WEU team. They won group B (5 W – 2 D – 1 L) and then finished 4th in the playoffs. The only teams that defeated them during the tournament were PSG.LGD, Gladiators, and Liquid.
