Team Spirit are the winners of DreamLeague S21

Team Spirit went from winning Riyadh Masters to winning DreamLeague S21. This team is clearly one step ahead of everyone else right now. And what is impressive is not only that they win, but also how they win.

Spirit’s Grand Final opponent was Shopify Rebellion, a team led by one of the best captains in the history of Dota 2, Tal “Fly” Aizik. The squad also features famous players like Artour “Arteezy” Babaev.

Throughout the tournament, the synergy between Rebellion’s players was captivating. But despite their best efforts, they still lost the Grand Final 0-3.

Team Spirit won The International 10 because of their deep understanding of the game but also because of players like Illya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk. At just 20 years old, he is widely considered to be one of the best carry players in the world. His total career winnings have already surpassed $5 million just from prize money alone.

Team Spirit’s run

Spirit started the tournament with excellent results. The match format didn’t favor one-sided results because it was best-of-two. But Miposhka’s crew still won four of the five matches, defeating opponents like Gaimin Gladiators, Quest Esports, and OG in the process.

In the playoffs, everyone was eager to see what they could do against the likes of Tundra Esports and Shopify Rebellion.

Because of the tournament format, Spirit only had to beat these two teams. However, they had to defeat Shopify twice. The first match took place in the upper bracket Final and ended with a 2-1 score. The second match took place in the Grand Final and was an even more dominant victory.

In all of their series, Spirit favored heroes like Earth Spirit, Dark Willow, Terrorblade, Sven, Enchantress, and Troll Warlord. We could say that their hero pool is not that big but it’s certainly very effective.

Some of the heroes picked by Spirit aren’t regarded as valuable by the other teams, so they tend to be left in the pool. This gives Spirit a significant advantage, because in many of their games, they have a lot more excellent options than their opponents.

Spirit’s strategy is not an explosive one. This is a team that will regularly play 35-60 minute games. Watching them compete, you get a sense that they actually enjoy standard Dota. It enables them to make use of their superior understanding of each phase of the game to gain a significant gold advantage.
