Throughout the entire history of the Overwatch competitive scene, we have enjoyed many top-tier players who have captivated us over time with their talent every chance they can. Moreover, very few of those who were present in the “original” season of the game are still active.

However, one player has been immersed in many transfers throughout his career (since his beginnings in 2017). But the funny thing is that these transfers always involve the same teams, the Boston Uprising and the San Francisco Shock.

This time we are talking about Korean Kwon “Striker” Nam-joo, who joins the Shock’s starting lineup for the third time in his career,

Striker joins the San Francisco Shock

For the third time in team history, the San Francisco Shock announced the signing of Korean Kwon “Striker” Nam-joo from the Boston Uprising this midseason. As we mentioned, Striker is part of many transfers in his OWL career. Also, it’s worth mentioning that this is not only the third time he’s signed with the Shock but also the third time he’s come over from the Uprising.

About Striker’s career transfers

Striker’s professional Overwatch career began in 2017 when he was part of the ROX Orcas lineup before officially joining the first lineup in Boston Uprising history.

After a very successful 2017 and part of the 2018 seasons for Boston, the team’s performance began to decline significantly, originating the departure of several players, including Striker. At that time, it was made official to sign with the Shock, a team where he would later win the 2019 and 2020 championships. In addition, Striker was the MVP of the 2020 season’s Grand Final.

However, in 2021, Striker announced his “retirement” from the competitive Overwatch scene. Likewise, four months later, it appears that Boston convinces the player to return to the scene for the start of the 2022 season.

After nearly seven months with Boston, Striker again decides to disassociate himself from the organization and thus return to his “retirement” from the competitive scene. However, just four months later, Striker’s signing by the San Francisco Shock was again announced.

At the time, the signing appeared to be a coup for the Shock, as Striker helped the team reach the 2022 season finals, where they lost to the Dallas Fuel. As a result of that loss, Striker decided to leave the team only to re-sign with the Boston Uprising a month later in what would be a “superteam” made up of veteran OWL players.

Return to the Shock

The Boston Uprising failed to qualify for Midseason Madness 2023, so the organization released Striker in early July. However, less than two weeks later, the Shock announced their return for the third time in their history.

There is no doubt that this has gone from being a “betrayal” to being a “funny” move, as even the Shock, in their announcement video, makes a point of it.

Now, the San Francisco Shock have a much broader lineup and have a great experience from their eternal DPS, Striker. However, we have to wait for the end of the season for the player to return to the Uprising and continue the cycle of his career.
