DreamLeague Season 22 is a very important Dota 2 event that’s scheduled to take place between February 25 – March 10. The event will feature 16 teams and almost all of them had to go through qualifiers.

In Western Europe, the process involved just eight participants but all of them had at least a few strong players. The favorites were OG, Team Secret, and Tundra Esports. In the end, all three of them qualified for DreamLeague S22.

What happened in the tournament

OG started the competition with a victory against KZ Team, but this was not as easy as we expected. In game 2, thanks to a combination of heroes that are very powerful in the mid to late game, and some clever tactics that ruined OG’s momentum, KZ team managed to upset their opponents and force a game 3.

As you might expect, OG won 2-1, but not before revealing some of their weaknesses.

For Team Secret, the tournament started even worse, with a 2-0 defeat against Tundra Esports. What’s even more upsetting is how they lost. The games took just 35 and 27 minutes respectively.

In game 1, Secret’s cheese attempt failed, partly because Tundra countered their Meepo with Sven, Vengeful Spirit, and Death Prophet. All of these heroes are excellent against Meepo in the later stages of the battle. On top of that, Tundra knew how to gain an early advantage and then extend it minute after minute. After just 12 minutes, it felt like the game was already over.

In game 2, Secret tried a perfectly standard draft with Abaddon, Puck, and Lifestealer, but they were once again countered by Tundra, who picked Sven and Sniper.

OG and Tundra went on to win their next round of upper bracket matches and qualified immediately for DreamLeague S22. Team Secret had to win three consecutive matches to secure their place in the tournament.

First, they defeated Team wkwkwk, who are led by the one and only Gustav “s4” Magnusson. This team had been defeated by Entity in the first round of the upper bracket. After a disastrous game 1, lost by Secret to a combination of Faceless Void, Techies, and Phoenix, Puppey drafted a bit more aggressively in games 2 and 3 and won the match.

The next lower bracket match, against Team Tickles, was very easy to win. But the last was a real challenge. It required three games to conclude, and Secret nearly lost in game 3 against an Anti-Mage that became an absolute monster.
