After two years from the North American League of Legends scene, experienced former European star Paul “sOAZ” Boyer returns to the LCS as Positional Coach of Counter Logic Gaming.

Last season, we saw how sOAZ was part of Mirage Elyandra, a French-Canadian team that plays in the LFL.

CLG announces its technical staff on Twitter

Counter Logic Gaming was one of the few teams in the LCS that decided not to make any changes to their starting lineup for the 2023 season.

Now, as for their technical staff, we can highlight the inclusion of the experienced and former Fnatic Top Laner, sOAZ, as the Positional Coach of the team.

sOAZ will join a large team of former professional players that CLG has on its coaching roster. On the roster, we can highlight the names of Tanner “Damonte” Damonte, former CLG Mid Laner, and Apollo “Apollo” Price, former Immortals AD Carry.

CLG will have three Positional Coaches for the 2023 season, giving them an additional boost when creating different strategies. Finally, Brandon “Mash” Phan, former FlyQuest Carry, will reinforce the team’s staff in the Challenger division as Strategic Coach.

About sOAZ

In September 2022, sOAZ announced his retirement as a player to take a “break” to pursue his new coaching role. A few months later, just before the start of the 2021 season, the veteran French player signed with French team LDLC OL as head coach alongside Bora “YellOwStaR” Kim.

After failing to get the expected results in the 2021 season, sOAZ announced that he would return to play in 2022 to return to the LEC and Worlds. After passing some trials and testing with different teams, sOAZ signed with WAVE Esports.

Unfortunately for sOAZ, the Spring Split for WAVE Esports was a total failure. They finished in tenth place in the regular season standings with only one win in the tournament.

Months later, the experienced player decided to sign with Mirage Elyandra as a substitute and Positional Coach. Once the 2022 season was over, sOAZ set out to find new opportunities for 2023, and finally, it was on the LCS side where he finally decided to land.

sOAZ brings his experience to the LCS

Now 28 years old, sOAZ will make his LCS coaching debut, but as we mentioned, he has plenty of LFL experience with LDLC OL and Mirage Elyandra. While he tried to have a triumphant return in WAVE Esports in 2022, sOAZ is known for his incredible years in Fnatic.

There is no doubt that sOAZ was a crucial part of Fnatic’s success from 2012 to 2018. During this time, the player could win four LEC championships and even help his team reach the grand final of Worlds 2018 against Invictus Gaming.

In recent seasons, sOAZ has struggled to be at the top of the leagues he has been in, whether with Misfits Gaming or Immortals.

This new Positional Coach role with CLG represents a golden opportunity to achieve greatness in a league as popular as the LCS. In addition, there is no doubt that he will bring a lot of knowledge to his team’s young and talented lineup.
