Matches like the one that took place in the lower bracket of the Lima Major between Shopify Rebellion and Evil Geniuses are one of the main reasons why millions of people love Dota 2. The action was very exciting to watch and Tal “Fly” Aizik proved his worth against his former org. In fact, the whole roster did.

The match was hyped. Evil Geniuses left North America at the end of last year, released its entire Dota 2 team and signed a new roster made of South American players. The decision was shocking and EG might come to regret it by the end of 2023. But it was necessary at the time to reduce costs.

Shopify vs. EG

Shopify Rebellion, being the former EG roster and playing in an arena full of South American fans who wanted EG to win, had a really tough job in this match. The tension was palpable and all the fans were making a lot of noise ahead of the battle. This atmosphere endured for most of the match.

But near the end of it, the crowd was a lot more silent. They had run out of steam and Shopify sent them home a bit upset.

The match started well for Evil Geniuses. Their draft in game 1 was much stronger than Shopify’s and the result was obvious after just 10 minutes. The two teams continued to play for another 22 minutes but everyone knew that EG would eventually win. And they did.

The combination between Broodmother in the offlane and Death Prophet Mid was lethal and gave Shopify no room to breathe and no way of winning team fights.

In game 2, Shopify’s draft was much better and Artour “Arteezy” Babaev proved why he is considered one of the best Luna players in the world. His ability to quickly get his key items and then utilize them with precision is phenomenal.

In game 3, Fly gave his Mid player Zeus, which was a strange choice given just how talented he is and how little effort it takes to play this hero well. For the first 5-10 minutes, Shopify did well and even got First Blood. But after that, they struggled to stay alive for the next 25 minutes.

The networth advantage grew quickly in favor of Evil Geniuses and it looked as though there was no hope left for Fly’s team. But, despite the low odds of success, Shopify made a comeback and sent EG home.
