Outworld Destroyer is highly successful and relatively popular again. His win rate is close to 53% while his pick rate is above 10%. These stats indicate that the community as a whole is starting to appreciate OD for all of his capabilities.

Recently, the radius of his ultimate was substantially buffed at level 1. This change seems to have made a big difference. But even without it, it’s not hard to win with OD when you have so many ways to increase your mana pool to such an extent that you will deal a massive amount of pure damage in the early game.

OD deals 12 – 15% of his mana pool as pure damage whenever you use Arcane Orb. This ability does cost 20% of your mana pool and has a 6s cooldown at level 1, but by the time you’re level 4, you can use it non-stop and rely on Essence Flux to get your mana back.

The chance of getting 25% – 55% mana is 30%, which means that you can use a combination of Arcane Orb and Astral Imprisonment to replenish your mana pool. This second ability can be used to save allies or to set up kills because it imprisons a target for 1.75 – 4s.

Enemies receive 90 – 360 damage and lose 16 – 22% of their mana for 30 – 60s, which is an enormous amount of time for such a massive debuff. Casting the ability twice on the same target, which can be done every 18 – 12s, will cripple its mana pool for a long duration.

This ability can be used from a range of 650, so it’s quite convenient to use in fights, especially if you have a Blink Dagger. The key is to blink in, use your W, wait for your allies to surround the target, and then attack.

This hero desperately needs both a Blink Dagger and a Dragon Lance to be effective. His ultimate ability, Sanity’s Eclipse, will deal 200 – 400 base damage plus 0.4 damage for every point of mana that you have above your enemies’ mana pool.

This means that against a strength-based hero with a mana pool of around 500, you will deal at least 400 extra damage if your mana pool is 1500+. And it should be in most cases because you can both steal mana with Astral Imprisonment and build mana by purchasing the right items.
