Unfortunately, League of Legends players need to buckle up for now because Riot has some bad news for them. The developer plans to increase the price of the in-game currency, Riot Points (RP), by up to 20% in some regions.
Riot periodically adjusts RP prices to accommodate economic fluctuations (depending on region, country, inflation, economic situation, etc.). But now the company has announced that in just a few weeks, players will be getting their biggest increases ever.
Massive price increase
Riot Games has announced that starting on August 19, it will increase the process of RP and TFT coins to offset inflation. Some regions are more affected than others. While players in North America can expect an increase of around 10%, some countries in Europe have to reckon with a double increase of more than 20%.
According to Riot’s official statement, these pricing changes are intended to “account for global inflation, currency fluctuations, maintaining fair pricing between and within regions, the consistency of our products, and other related cost increases.” There will be different price changes in regions where the game is powered by Tencent, while there will be no price adjustments on the Garena server at this time.
USA and Canada
In the US, RP and TFT coin prices will change by an average of 9.8%. The amount of currency (in USD) provided for the $5, $35, $50, and $100 tiers has been significantly reduced. While the $10 and $20 tiers offer the same amount as before, their Cost increased to $11 and $21 respectively.
btw about the rp price increase, reminder that the bonus rp when buying will be applied between july 14 – 31 which coincidentally means that any rp purchases in the sg event are gonna have that extra. DONT BUY RP BEFORE THE SG EVENT GOES LIVE
also the pricier rp comes in august

Canadian players can expect an average price increase of 9.9% for all purchases made in their currency of choice. The currency provided for each tier has been greatly increased to align with the rest of North America, but this results in a steep increase in the cost of each tier. The lowest tier, 5 CAD, now costs 5.49 CAD and offers slightly less in-game currency.
Is inflation a valid argument?
Riot’s decision to increase prices isn’t going to please the community, especially since it’s such a hefty raise. Riot knows this too, that’s why it will run a promotion where all purchases come with bonus RP and TFT Coins. The promotion runs from July 14 – 31 in all regions, but after that, the price will skyrocket in a few weeks.
No wonder the community is angry that Riot is increasing the prices. Many people also wonder if the inflation argument is really valid. However, almost all retailers in the world — regardless of the goods — have increased their prices massively and that is why everything is currently becoming more expensive. So it was almost clear that this adaptation would happen one day.
